Re: Gun storage in damp location questions
Pretty humid here in Louisiana too, and I live near a lake. With my guns it has so far depended on the quality of the bluing the most. The well blued ones like my colt python never rust. They hold their finish. My old sears and roebuck shotgun and ancient S&W revolver require constant watching a...

Re: 1984Css, shes so tiny! But here she is :D
I took it out shooting this weekend. It is very accurate! I love it. I am definitely going to replace the sights. It deserves better than buckhorn. I had 2 types of ammo. Georgia Arms 900fps .38 special SWC with no shoulder (900fps marked on the box, not chronod). It shot these very accurately and f...

Thought the supreme court slapped them and told them to stop being unconstitutional? Anywho, wiki says their pistol laws are a major pain and its not safe to travel anywhere in that state with a pistol... but no mention of rifles. Sucks that states are allowed to act so unconstitutionally. I know I ...

1984Css, shes so tiny! But here she is :D
Didn't know they were so tiny. Have it next to an old .22 bolt action and a bill to give some scale. Don't get me wrong, I like it! just surprised. Fit and finish: The stock and metal are excellent though the stock doesn't match up perfectly. The gap is very small and uniform though. The slide also ...

Re: I need advice...Marlin 1894c or a Puma 92
I routinely see them going for well under MSRP brand new on gunbroker and other sights. I bought an SS version, even harder to find, for well under msrp. They are hard to find (impossible locally) but they don't command much price premium. Not sure why not. I did see some of the foreign ones (rossi,...

Re: Home Made Peep Sight?
You're right, I forgot all about eyebolts.
Bet it would look real cool to cut the top of an eye bolt off only leaving a small crescent of the eye left then put a slot in that and stick a buffalo nickel in it with a little hole through the buffalo.

Home Made Peep Sight? *Updated with pics*
Just looking at the skinner made me start thinking. Couldn't you just take a properly threaded bolt and weld a washer on the end of it, cut it to length, and put a small nut under it with a rubber washer between it and the gun? It would look a bit crude but should work, right? Lookin around my old m...

Re: .38 Special FMJ in a lever gun?
I just bought some Fiocchi FMJ round nose since it was the only box of ammo I could find in town. I do plan to load them one by one though. I believe you guys that the recoil in .38 special is too weak to cause a chainfire... but I know I am quite clumsy sometimes so I wouldn't put it past myself to...

Re: Browning lever action ..BL22 GR II
I had a shiny GR1 growing up as a kid. Talked to the old man about it this weekend. Said he paid $112 for it. Also said the accuracy was stuff. I used to shoot turtles with the thing though and thought it shot fine in my hands! Also never choked on the super cheap walmart ammo I used. Meanwhile my 2...

Re: Who's a fan of the .270 Win?
I asked my old man about his deer hunting (he quit before I was born... all his energy into fishing). Said all he ever used was a .270. Said he started with the off the shelf ammo but in louisiana, in the low visibility woods, it was just overkill. Said he killed most of his deer with weak 100 grain...

Re: OT-No more Bass Pro - final straw
We've got one here that is huge and seems like it must have cost a literal fortune to build. I shop there occasionally (its on the boardwalk) while waiting for movie time. I rarely buy anything though since their ammo is more expensive than walmart, but its fun to look since its like walking through...

Bought KX500 (dream dirtbike) Wrecked / Broke KX500 (next task is fixing it lol) I too, am a fan of the big 5-honey. I've pretty much universally switched to the 4 bangers for competition, but this big dinosaur gets a paddle tire pried on a couple of times a year to go to the dunes and jam (what'd ...

The pitting and beat up nature gives it a nice antique look IMO. Looks ancient, in a good way.

Mandatory To Mod a Marlin 1894 Right Out of the Box?
More noob questions  According to: http://marauder.homestead.com/files/Marlin94Fix.html All of the 94 guns get this problem eventually and the easiest fix is in a new gun. So the first thing I should do upon receiving my gun (Lookin like friday) and before shooting it is to pull it apart and f...

.357 Magnum Hunting... Being Laughed At :(
For some reason whenever I mention I got a hunting gun and people ask me "what is it?" and I say ".357 magnum carbine" their instant reply is "Thats too weak to hunt, get a real rifle". I'm not scared of recoil or big guns, in fact I am usually the dummy who jumps in ov...

Re: Whats up with Gunbroker.com ?
I just did some gun hunting on there and here is how it went for me. A lot had seemingly good prices, but crappy shipping rates (same as ebay). A lot had really high starting bids. The gun I finally settled on had a buyout price about $10 over the starting bid of the other auctions and free shipping...

Re: would a cheap laser-pointer work for yotes?
The really neat ones are the green lasers. In high power variants they make an actual beam in the dark, more or less visible depending on conditions and the power of the laser. The issue is that the very powerful ones can blind you if they hit something shiny. I don't mean "blind" you. I m...

Will get some pictures when it arrives. Its a scarce gun so unless I wanted to check the local stores for months only to pay $800 for it, I had to order it. $650 shipped buyout on gunbroker and going to be a $10 transfer fee from a local gun smith / restorer / dealer. Should have it in my hands in a...

My First Lever Action :D
Just picked up my first lever action. A Marlin 1894C SS. I like the idea of being able to plink and shoot small game with cheap .38 special rounds and then when I feel like deer hunting I can shoot high priced high powered .357 mags. I also love the idea of stainless since I live in the ever humid L...
