Re: It official for those that care Brady is now a Buc

Patriots will tank this coming season to get #1 draft pick in 2021. They will then use this pick to draft Trevor Lawrence (QB, Clemson) and will soon be back on top of the NFL.

Bucs = poor decisions, poor franchise.

Patriots = good decisions, good franchise.

Factory New 32 Winchester Special

According to the Winchester site, Winchester is offering their Model '94 in 32 Winchester Special for 2018. They are built by Miroku, of course, and are pricey at over $1300.

Re: Do I need a special front sight?

I am not a fan of front sight hoods, and invariably remove them from my rifles so equipped. Recently however, I observed that front sight hoods do protect the inside lining of my gun cases by preventing the front sight from snagging on the lining when removing the rifle from the case. A piece of mas...

Stumbling upon this discussion has been a real blessing, as I am facing cataract surgery this summer. I have been unsettled about facing the procedure, but this discussion has eliminated much of my anxiety. Thanks guys. Canuck Bob, I have always enjoyed reading many of your posts, as we both seem to...

Re: 5744 is such a great/versatile powder

This AmmonGuide application looks pretty interesting. I have never used this powder, but have recently been thinking of giving 5744 a try, in cast bullet loads: 30-40, 300 Savage, and 32 Winchester Special I have several questions concerning 5744. 1've read that AA 5744 frequently leaves behind cons...

Article on Barrington Shootout

I enjoyed the Barrington Shootout article in the most recent issue of the American Rifleman. It was an historical episode with which I was not very familiar. And the description of the firearms used was interesting; especially the Colt Monitor, Colt Super 38, and the Winchester 1907 rifle. The autho...

Great pictures; I love those Model 8's and 81's ! I wish someone still did the Krieger-type modification to the magazine. Wouldn't a 15 shot 35 Remington be a lot of fun ? I think the tang sights look terrific, but I just can't find a comfortable place to put my thumb when using a rifle that has one...

Re: Anyone shoot 17hmr?

I have a Marlin 917V in 17 HMR. With a Burris mini 6X scope, it is pretty easy to head shot squirrels out to maybe 40 yards. You need to do this (head shoot), as a body shot is pretty destructive on game you intend to eat. Having several 22 caliber diameter cleaning rods on hand, I dislike that one ...

Re: Hornady 25-35 110 gr FTX

What's next from Hornady, along these lines?

Perhaps a 115/120 grain .312" FTX for the 32-20? It could serve as a replacement for both the long-discontinued Remington 100 grain .312 softpoint and the recently discontinued (or so I read in another forum) Speer 115 grain .312 Gold Dot.

Re: 1906: 32-40 vs. 30-30

There was nothing wrong with the older BP barrels. Yes, they were not the nickel steel or smokeless steel barrels that replaced them, and were harder steels. But the main reason for these harder steel barrels was the advent of jacketed bullets more than smokeless powders. Jacketed bullets could wea...

Re: 1906: 32-40 vs. 30-30

. Hummph ! I would have thought that once Winchester started to regularly offer their Model 94 in smokeless chamberings, they would also have simplified thing by also barreling those rifles with the proper barrels, ILO older-style soft(er) steel barrels. Could it have been because the .32-40 was ma...

1906: 32-40 vs. 30-30

I found the following article in a Google book review of Recreation magazine, Volume 25 (edited by George O. Shields). In the article, which originally appeared in Recreation in 1906, the author (a Mr. FJ De La Fleur) explains why the 32-40 rifle is marginally more powerful than the 30 WCF, and back...

Kirk Douglas's 100th Birthday Today

A talented actor, in my opinion. I enjoyed much of his work. I loved the scene in "In Harm's Way" where Douglas' character slaps Commander Neil Owynne (Patrick O'Neil) and says, "Be on the next plane outta here, and take this punk with you.", referring to the Brandon De Wilde cha...

Re: Krag Rifles ?

I have a Norwegian Krag in 6.5X55. It is my favorite rifle and has been somewhat sporterized: shortened barrel, stock cut down a little, side mount for old school Weaver K3 scope. I love the turned down, "butter knife" bolt handle, and the smooth Krag action. My frustration stems from the ...

Re: Favorite bad guy?

Hi - this is my first post.

Some great "bad guy" candidates here, for sure.

I would submit Bill McKinney - he played Clint Eastwood's nemesis in "The Outlaw Josie Wales." He also played one of the most despicable villains in cinema history in "Deliverance."
