Re: OT--Rifle carry in Africa
Its an easy way to carry a heavy long barreled gun, try it sometime, balances just perfect atop the shoulder. I often carry a shotgun in this fashion. I mostly hunt alone so no danger ahead of me to harm. .DT

Re: Custer and the Henry
I read an article in a Taxidermy magazine from a few years back, Custer enjoyed shooting game and practicing Taxidermy himself. It had photos of him and mounted antelope and birds and such. Here a few miles from my house is a lone grave upon a mountain side, miles from any home and now on public lan...

I tried a red-dot scope on a .30/30, one box of ammo and I took it off, put a scout scope on it and like it much better. At 100 yards the dot on mine covered 4 inches, Some others cover more.

I made the mistake of stuffing 50gr of H4198 into a .45/70 case and topping it off with a 350gr bullet and firing a handful of these cartridges through the metal cresent butt plate of my Buffalo Classic. I said words other than owie between shots

Rolling Block 45/70
After looking at the Rolling Blocks posted in the military rifle thread, I was wondering if there is a go to forum for info on learning of these rifles? I noticed a couple in my local pawn shop. I know nothing of these rifles but do love the way they look, their age and I already love the 45/70 cart...

I recently went with the Lee Turret press and have no complaints. I load at the moment for .308w, 444m, and 45/70 and plan to load for other rifle and handgun cartridges soon. Most of my equipment is mixed brands overall, any 'color' you choose will do you right.

Or how about getting more good outta the shorter barrel by pushing a heavier bullet, some of the guys on Marlinowners are shooting cast in their .444 at 400grains and above with the 1 in 20" twist, isn't that what makes our .45/70's work so well?
