Re: Which of the AR-15 "big bores"

I was in the same place as you a while back, deliberating between those 3. After much debate, and research I have decided I will build a 458 SOCOM. Far greater bullet selection than the 452" and 50. Less costly than the 50 cal, both in building and shooting.

That's more than most do. I will generally break in a new semi auto handgun with 200 rounds of ball ammo, then 50 rounds of my carry ammo to ensure it functions reliably. From then on it's either ball, or cast bullets for practice.

I carry a handload of 124 gr. Hornady XTP, with a max change of Blue Dot. Actual chronographed speed from my 92 is 1305 fps. That's right up there with the 357 Sig. I've conducted numerous tests with ballistic gel and XTP bullets of various calibers, and they are always reliable expanders, and retai...

I hope it's a good seller for them. It's a great cartridge. My 1977 model is without a doubt the most accurate levergun I've ever had. With it's favorite load it's 3 shot cloverleafs at 100 yards. Every other load rivals bolt gun accuracy. Have never shot a load that wasn't at least satisfactory.

The test I'm especially interested in is when the car is off, is there a drain on the battery? A $5.00 DVOM from Harbor Freight will tell you the truth. Set it to amperes and disconnect one of the battery cables. Put one lead on the battery post, the other on the battery cable. Any amount of amps o...

In addition to checking the fuses, there are fusible links near the battery that are known to fail. If your problem isn't found there, most likely the problem is in the distributor. A remanufactured distributor can be had from the local parts store for about $200. But before you go buying any parts,...
