Re: Shooting the 380

I have worked on dozens of .380 wounds ( some lethal, some not) in my profession over the last 21 years. it use to be far more common until the rise of the compact series of CCW guns in 9/40/45. FMJ normally gives close to a shoot thru. I think the Gold Dot or any other quality JHP will probably do ...

Re: .444 Questions

I have a .444 model 94 big bore XTR and to be honest it is my favorite woods rifle. I really only shoot the standard remington load and without hesitation can say that the load has done everything I could have possibly imagined. The recoil is remarkably light, even with no pad. my 10 year old shoots...

Re: OT - In line muzzleloader questions

my advice wout be dont use Pellets. use powder of your choice. we've tried them all and gone back to loose powder. YMMV a .50 will take anything in North America. i have used anything from 240 gr jacketed or JHP bullets with black sabots, to .50 round balls and patches to mega bullets like the 385 g...

Re: OT SKULL BLEACHING

there are easier ways. i've been doing quite of bit of this the past few years. 2 methods i use are: trimming the skull meat as much as possible , scrambling the brain tissue with a coat hanger and soaking in 30% H202 ( clairol peroxide from beauty supply) changing out the old stuff a few times a da...

Re: Grizzlies and the 30-30

Just outta curiousity I wonder how a .30-30 stacks up power and pentration wise against the front stuffers from the first half of the 19th century. LK I've done some testing, a .50 cal round ball with 90gr of BP zips thru a 125lb (field dressed) whitetail like butter. I have shot them from front ch...

Re: The Boy man'd up this week

I guess I'm on the lookout for another one, cause he's not getting mine just yet. Find him a nice old (1964 to 1971) Marlin in 444 ! Easier to come by , easier on the wallet and nine times outta ten will shoot a bit better with jacketed or cast . And this is coming from someone that HAS owned about...

I grew up 4 blocks away from the site of the J.J. Re: The Boy man'd up this week

we hunt heavy timber in SE Oklahoma. I've killed deer with probably 25 different calibers and so far, I have not found a cartridge that kills as quick. non CNS shots seem to have the same effects as a CNS shot. Boom! lights out and a stretch out. one thing we have noticed is there is very little mea...

Ahhh Adair County what do you want to know. I am very familiar with it. Stilwell is kind of a quirky place. Visitors are not normally taken a shine too in a long term fashion (meaning don't unpack). like most towns in Eastern Oklahoma, your family reputation makes or breaks you. I have lived there a...

The Boy man'd up this week

I took my 10 year old boy to the cabin this week. we have a shooting range on sight with targets at 40 and 100 yards. He was getting some range time with a his Varmit Barreled 77/22 and deer rifle, a Howa Youth 7mm-08. While picking up brass, he looked at me and asked if I brought my .444. When I re...

funny you should ask. I bought the wife a 2011 Traverse in December. she loves it for urban driving and for parking in the parking garage at her work. she loves it- thats all that matters. downsides-in my view 1- disturbing lack of getty up n go. you won't be able to smack the filly in the fanny to ...

as a lifelong Oklahoman, i can attest that what your nephew did was Standard Operating Procedure. the FIRST THING you are taught is that when any reports of erratic or tornadic activity (sirens or no sirens) is to go out side with all your neighbors and look at the sky. small talk will be made with ...

BP rifles are probably my main hobby. From Side Locks to In-lines I shoot them all year round. I have 8 BP rifles, a Savage is not one of them. I'm sure it is an excellent rifle. no doubt about that. But I do remember quite a few experts, questioning the validity of the powder claims. Personally, I ...
