how to crimp 30-30
Hi All, Been a long time since I've been on here. I am looking for advice on how to crimp the 30-30. In the past I have used what a friend described to me as bouncing the ram. It works I guess but seems rather imprecise...... So I am looking for a more consistent way. Maybe I am over analyzing it......

trimming and crimping 30-30
I have been reloading pistol ammo for a few years. Just recently started reloading bottleneck cases. Weird. The 30-30 is especially confusing with crimping the case. I don't think I do it right. A friend told me to skip trimming the case and to "bounce" crimp it. I don't think I am crimpin...

Re: 9422 - lost my magazine!!
Well I finally gave up on finding the mag tube. (I am cheap what can I say.) So I called browning and ordered the part. I did not say anything about the price on the web site of $13. They guy said they were $13. I just smiled. So, they are still going off the 2008 parts catalog. They did say they ha...

Re: 9422 - lost my magazine!!
I went out today with my 13 yr old. We could not find it. But we did find a nice place to sit and hunt from!! Always a good thing. I am going to call the Winchester site and see if I can get it from them. They were much cheaper than Numrich. I'll post back about pricing compared to the 2008 catalog....

Re: 9422 - lost my magazine!!
I unloaded the magazine before we started walking out. So there is no spring pressure to lock it into the gun and not much weight difference. BTW I was not carrying it. My boys traded stuff halfway out. So they each carried it. Don't ask how you don't notice the piece falling out the end, it is pret...

9422 - lost my magazine!!
I had my two oldest boys out for squirrel yesterday. The oldest (16) got one!! I sat with the youngest (13) we saw a couple groundhogs and a couple deer. A good evening hunt. When we got home I noticed the tube magazine was missing from my 9422. I plan on going back over the routes we walked last ev...

Re: O/T: Camping on the Lost Coast of CA
Thanks for the picts. Sure looks nice along the shore. I always enjoy outdoor picts. I'd like to do the bike trip thing someday. Right now we have 5 kids, 2 to 15 years old. The bike thing will wait. We want to do some camping in central PA mountains this summer at a campground. I want to do a backp...

Re: OAL of Sierra ProHunter 125gr 30-30
Dave, thanks for the info!! Hobie, Yeah, I'm an engineer. It is fun but does make life so much more complicated.... Sierra data shows OAL of 2.420. Just before that was posted I seated them till they looked right. Measured 2.430. I gonna leave them there. Going to try to get out in the next few days...

Re: OAL of Sierra ProHunter 125gr 30-30
It looks like the Sierra will have a OAL of slightly less than 2.45 inches. I have a datasheet for 130gr SPR FP that states 2.540 inches. So the 125 is gonna be .1 inch less. That sounds pretty significant to me. The bullet will still all be in the neck and not the case. Maybe I am making a bigger d...

OAL of Sierra ProHunter 125gr 30-30
I don't have the Sierra manual. What is the Overall length of the 30-30 when loaded with the Sierra Pro Hunter 125 gr? If all else fails I guess I load them so the top of the case is in the middle of the bullet canalure. I bought 200 of them. I want to load up some light loads for my 12 and 13 year ...

Re: load for 125 gr 30-30
What is the OAL of the 30-30 when loaded with the Sierra 125gr? I got them yesterday and have started into loading. Next step is to set die to OAL.

Re: load for 125 gr 30-30
Hey, they list data on the IMR website. They listed data for IMR4064 and a 130 gr bullet. Start 33.3 gr at 2196fps Max 35.5C gr at 2424fps What does the C mean behind 35.5?? I did not see a footnote to go with that. There are 2 loads on my print out with C behind it. Anyway the IMR data seems to jiv...

Re: load for 125 gr 30-30
Dave, that is a sweet looking lever with the scout scope. I used WildWest base on my Win 94 to mount a Leupold scope. Makes a real nice set up. I think it will work well with my kids. That scope has long eye relief. It will work well with them. My Hornady 3rd edition shows max of 36.4 IMR4064 under ...

Re: load for 125 gr 30-30
Can you use load data for 130 with a 125 bullet? I know the 125 is lighter but what about the difference in internal volume which does affect pressure.
I prefer to compare data. I only have one Hornady manual and powder specific manuals from Hogdon and Alliant.
Thanks!!

load for 125 gr 30-30
Howdy, I am looking for a low recoil 30-30 load for my smaller kids to hunt with. They will be 12 and 13 this fall. The 125 gr Sierra ProHunter gets real good reviews on Midway USA. I do not have any load data for this bullet. I am not looking for a hot fast load. But rather something kinda midrange...
