If I had to use a 44 magnum, 300 grain xtp with max charge of 2400. However, if there is even a chance of a griz in the area, I'm carrying a 50 Alaskan with 535 grain Woodleigh's at 1900 fps. I shoot stainless vaqueros (2 cylinders) for cowboy action in 44-40 (black) and 44 magnum (smokeless). I can get them completely clean on the cylinder face with a bit of Flitz and a soft cloth. The black powder cleans off easy with hot soap and water usually.

The ones I have seen look nice. "Brown recoil pad for hard recoiling Magnum loads"???? Huh??? Mine was made in 1984 and has the black plastic buttplate and I have never shot any 44 Magnum load that I even noticed recoil on. Now, my 444, 45/70, 50 Alaskan and 50-110 are a different matter.
