Well not as daringly politically-incorrect as you may think. Garands were built for war and anyone looking at those M1 sights and a 30/06 M2 Ball round will see that the whole thing was about heavy hitting, and hitting at a distance. The context sets the criteria. As an aside I read the Army is look...

Read once that Izmash made their 410 Saiga automatic shotgun first. For the Russian police. And not as a lessthanlethal device. So if you buy into that and the pro Judge/Governor rationale a 410 lever starts to look seriously useful.

There are few things you can walk around with that have the spirit and history of an M1. An artifact of courage, determination, sacrifice and other things. You got an awfully big medicine stick. Find that happy cadence of 200 yards rapid that puts all eight into a truck window.

Don't clean them with anything that is or contains an abrasive. They look great now, you could not improve the patina of honorable service. If you can, bottle and sell it. Be careful with the old leather, check out what real conservators do.

Doesn't anyone use a pull through on a Marlin? These things are supposed to be tough field rifles, no? Why not clean the bore without maybe dropping a little part into into forest detritus or the desert sands?

Hunting guns, range toys, maybe we're a little more specialized today than when these kinds of guns were cutting edge, but specialization, as we know, is for insects. I hold my levergun to be just what it was when they first came out. My rifle. For everything. Gotta have the loading gate.

From Western movies it is easy to see the true nature and purpose of The Bedroll. It is a small, thin cloth that contains anything and everything you would need on a long trip or a life of drifting from town to ranch to cattle drive and back to town. Its volume and weight are unaffected by anything ...

As has been said, a copper wash in the bore is not a problem. Read Col. Townsend Whelen on this if you wish. Ramming and rubbing abrasives down the bore can be a problem, plus it's messy and tiresome. Clean less, shoot more.

Nice piece 20. WM why not try that 38-55 sawed off? Freckled receiver? The ugly step child that shoots with the rest of them.
