Re: What my 92 in 45 colt taught me today

het, Cowboy Tutt, just curious: Have you put many 454 rounds through your Puma? Or just 45 Colt rounds? Does the Puma handle the 454 ammo decently, e.g., kick not too bad, etc? I'm thinking about finding one of those but want to know what it's manners are first.

Broken/Missing Safety Notch on Model 92 Hammer

So I spot this Winchester 1892 on the rack at the local gun shop and ask to see it. It is a octogonal barrel rifle in 38 WCF, something that I've wanted to have for a while. I use a bore light to check the bore --- a little pitted, but not too bad and strong rifling. Then I work the action and lower...

Re: Winchester 1876 short rifle 45-60 on GB?

The picture of that '76 brings back bittersweet memories. I was passing thru Billings, Montana a dozen or so years ago and happened to find a vintage Winchester '76 short rifle for sale in a gun shop. The price was very reasonable (around $700 I think), so I bought it and took it home happy as a kid...

Re: OT: Need "safe" barrier to keep out trespassers

If the road or trail is on the section line (66 feet every mile)you can not close it its public property. If it just goes on to your property close it/ take it out. Gasman twp. board president "section lines are Public property"? I've never heard that before. Is that a Federal law? Or may...

Re: Rossi '92 - what caliber?

[quoteHi Mike,
Those two, a 454 casull and a 480 ruger are the tube load versions. They still come like that in 454 casull but they no longer make the 480.

[/quote]

I wonder why they don't make the 480 Ruger any more? Isn't it less brutal on the shoulder and also less pressure than the 454 Casull?

Re: Flat Steel Buttplate on a 1911 Vintage Model 94 carbine?

The carbine's buttplate looks just like the checkered one Malamute pictured above (not the deluxe one linked). Also, there is excellent wood-to-metal fit, with no gap alongside the hammer.

Re: Flat Steel Buttplate on a 1911 Vintage Model 94 carbine?

The flat steel buttplate is checkered, and measures 4 5/8 inches high and just under 1 3/8 inches wide at its widest. The checkering goes very close to the edge of the buttplate. I am not sure what is meant by a "lip". The carbine's serial number is 5695XX, which per my published sources m...

Flat Steel Buttplate on a 1911 Vintage Model 94 carbine?

It just dawned on me that my 1911 vintage M94 saddle-ring carbine has a flat steel buttplate. Somewhere I have read recently that the flat steel buttplates were not standard on M94 carbines until in the 1930's. Judging from the excellent, original-looking, finish and condition of the carbine's wood ...

Does My Model 92 have A Bad Bore, Or Rather Lead Build-up?

Looking Down the bore of a 1909 vintage Model 92 rifle in Cal. 25-20, I got discouraged because the rifling looked pretty bad. So, I ran a wire brush through the barrel a bunch of times, but it still looked almost as bad. I began to wonder, however, whether it's all leaded up, because it doesn't loo...
