Re: Woes of the hunt - Win 94 30-30 was wrong equipment
Most of the discussion has been about irons or scopes. But the suggestion that the 30/30 wasnt enough because it didnt poke a hole through the other side is significant also. Hogs are tough and often dont leave great blood trails like a deer would. Would a 444 have exited? How about a 200 grain from...

Re: barrel porting
I dont think they change recoil as much as they effect muzzle flip. The idea being that you should be able to get back on target faster. But, the ports are utterly deafening. I actually sold a 450 Marlin (fantastic little gun) simply because the stinking thing was so loud. Now, I put a really good r...

No doubt if I still had my 307 I would load the 30/30 160grain Hornady LE bullet not that it is available.

Re: 30-30 Ammo. ?
I have shot quite a few 125 grain hollow points reloads. They are an explosive bullet designed for big game. As stated before they would also serve well as a self-defense round. Would probably be the best man stopper. Unlike some, I like the bullet to do more than just poke a hole through the deer. ...

Re: Did your 45-70 cut your head?
Never cut my head but the scope on my 450M hit my shooting glasses hard enough to scare me. From that point on I have never had a scope on a rifle with less than 5 inches of eye relief. There are some pretty good scopes out there with adiquate eye relief. I like my 2x-7x Burris Timberline with 5 inc...

Re: 375 JDJ vs 375/444 vs 375 Winchester
My understanding is that the 375/444 is the 375JDJ by another name. The Max 375 win out of a 22 inch barrel will be in the neighborhood of 2250 or 2300 for the 220 grain Hornady using 1680. A 200 grain sierra can get nearly 2500 fps out of a 22 inch barrel using the same 1680 powder. (these will not...

Re: Heavy 375 Loads
1886, you mentioned the "burning rate with 1680 not being appropriate." Do you mean for heavier bullets? I have not reloaded my 375 yet but was leaning toward using 1680 and 200grain bullets. Mostly because the extra fps at no cost in pressure. I also have heard that the 2 best powders wer...

Re: Opinions on a Win 94 in 375
I like the 94 big bore. I had one in 307 win a while back. The gun was nice to carry and hunt with. It was slightly heavier than a normal 94 but it had more punch. I have the 375 win in a Marlin 375. I like the round, lots of power out to 200 yards. Factory ammo is expensive at around $40. You can g...

I have a buddy who got a rem 7600 in 30/06. You dont expect them to be the greatest shooters but his does less than MOA with one load. Fast 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th shot. you ought to enjoy it

Re: Issue with Burris Mini Mag 4x scope
Try making an adjustment and then before firing your next shot tap it with an empty shell. Chances are the adjustments are not settling. I read somewhere about the new Timberlines doing that and I think the Short-Mags may be much the same.

Re: Conflicting Results - LeverEvolution 30-30
Some thoughts, we tend to judge things on our limited experience with them. bullets, guns, basically everything. 3 deer getting away to die later is bound to sour someone on a particular loading. That said, I have heard report after report of people who love the LE bullets and think they really take...

Yah, I held one at the Bass Pro in Independence MO. It was the all steel version. I really like the 22 style loading. The barrel was very, very thick. It looked and felt like some kind of heavy target barrel. The guy was heavy and it pointed nicely. I have also held one of the new Mossburg levers. I...

Re: 35Rem or 375Win.
I have a Marlin 375 in 375 win. Win factory loads are mild. You can get an honest 200 grain to 2400fps with a 20 inch barrel. that will beat the 35 rem. That said, the rubber tipped stuff may fly flatter.

Re: 30-30XLR vs 336
Shooting light bullets does not mean you extend your range at all. I have used the 125 grain flat points and find that they lose speed more quickly than most other bullets. someone posted an absurd # of 2900fps with 125 grain bullet. The best I have done with the 125 grain bullets is 2550fps and tha...

I sold one a couple months back. I took $550 for it. Seemed fair to me. No doubt that RL 15 is the speed king for 150 grain bullets. If you can get it to shoot well in your rifle you will beat most other powders by over 100fps. My 307 was shooting a max load of 45 grains of RL 15 behind a speer 150grain bullet. Out of the 20 inch barrel it was good for over 2650fps. Bar...

honestly, i doubt that you could pull that off safely. to get there you would need to convert your gun to a 30/30 improved or a 307. then you dont have reliable data. that said, you might get 2325 or so with the leverevolution 160 grain factory 30/30 loads. It may be possible to handload 2350 to 240...

ok, my question is what are the limitations on the Mossburg in terms of pressure? Apply the same question to the new Henry? If some of the design flaws of the Marlin and Win 94 have been corrected we may see the possibility of a new 356 win in Mossburg or Henry. Or what about a 307 win with rubber t...
