What j miller said. The narrow top groove is the crimp groove. You are sizing the bullet too deep, adjust the stop so the top groove does not get lube in it.

Contact Dave Corbin at Corbin's, the bullet swage equipment company. Dave did this to an original 1886 Winchester, as I recall, back in about 1967 or so. In the early 1950s Marlin re-designed the trigger from a one piece to a two piece. It is part of the safety mechanism which prevents the rifle from firing unless the lever is held completely closed. What you observe is completely normal for each respective time of manufacture.

Is the only question whether they are rifle or pistol primers? Measure the height and compare to ones you have still in the factory packaging, large rifle primers are higher than large pistol.

Anyone who knows better can feel free to correct me, but I don't believe Les sold his shop. From a memorial to a friend of his, his daughter indicates Les was in a nursing home from at least June 2007. If still alive he is probably in his 90's and unlikely to still be making barrels.
