Re: Forgot how deadly the 243 is

I bought a Winchester M70 Coyote from a private party a couple years ago. It was in 243 WSSM, which I knew little about. I learned quickly. Essentially it shoots any .243 bullet about 150-200FPS+ faster than any 243 Win! It was as accurate as my crosshairs, and almost zero recoil. I took a couple do...

Re: OT - Gun Designs that never made it

Winchester made a strange lever-action rifle. It had two stocks instead of one, always failed to re-chamber a second round without operating a manual crank, and wouldn't take a scope without gunsmith modifications. The magazine wasn't detachable, and it required special bullets to avoid detonation u...

Re: Stainless Steel Lever Guns - HA.. WHAT R THEY GOOD 4

Blued carbon steel is soooo 19th century! It was what they used then because it was all they had. Purty, but fragile, relatively speaking.

Asthetics and nostalgia aside, stainless steel guns are an overall advancement, unless 100% of your shooting / hunting is done indoors!

Re: Model 71, how much would you pay???

Seems the gun shows around MI are full of Winchester 71 guns. But the Browning rifles are the REAL rarities! Far fewer of the Browning M71s were made, of course. And with modern (1980's) metallurgy & CNC precision. The pre-war Winchester guns were essentially hand-built from necessity, as the to...

Re: bedroom closet home protection plan

Why buckshot? Consider over-penetration in your home, as you cannot control where a badguy might be. Try a couple tests with a load of steel BB and drywall. (please leave no garbage behind at your favorite shootin' hole). At realistic defense-inside-your-home distances of two-to-six yards, that BB l...

We ARE still talking about defense here, right? Our bedside life insurance includes a Mossberg 500 pump with dual pistol grips in 20 gauge. We've tested it at in-home (DEFENSE) ranges with all types of fun targets, like plywood wrapped in canvas & an old leather biker jacket. Have pics somewhere...

Cheese-n-rice there Charles, you sound upset - at what? I only read one post awhile back from you and no one actually disagreed with you? I see the issue as one of, sadly, an anomaly of our judicial system. Contributing causes are those (including myself) whose knowledge of how "it is supposed ...

I was called to jury duty a couple years back. With about 40 Cititzens left in the selection pool for a high-profile violent crime case involving (among other charges) illegal concealed carry of a firearm, the defense picked a woman who was then interviewed by the judge briefly. The woman stated she...

I have a few others - two Big Bore 375's and a Contender barrel that's equal to any levergun.

But this is the first checkered Marlin in 275 I've ever seen. I thought 600 was too steep but whittled him down some.

Marlin Lever in 375 WIN

Found one of these today - it has been refinished in the wood a bit but the checkering was left alone. Pistol grip, flip-down site, 3/4-mag tube, factory made in 375Win caliber. I didn't think they had made these, although I have seen the 356 ER guns in the past. How rarely are they encountered ITRW...

The first time I ever heard about SKS rifles in the USA (about 1992?), my local store had a few crates of them for $39 per gun. I bought two, bought two more the next week. Ammo was ridiculous - under 10 cents per round, Chinese ball stuff. The Russian surplus 91/30's are drying up quickly. Excellen...

AOL is a virus.

It infiltrates your computer worse than Norton software, and takes a good while to find all the hidden files and get them deleted for good.

Any ISP is better than AOL.
