The original question involved the 44 SPL vs 9mm. If you do not need to penetrate anything much (auto glass, car doors, etc.) the 44 hands down. I used 450 Alaskan and 450 Fuller older reject 348 brass for practice and finally got some good 45-75 wcf cartridges.
It DOES help to anneal the cases as brass work hardens fast.
