OT Night Hog Hunting Scope

Here is my situation: I have a BLR in 358 win with a Leuopold VX1 3 x 9 with 50mm objective. I put up small green feeder lites for nite hunting. I can see the hogs but not the crosshairs. If I use a scope mounted red light it spooks the hogs. I really can't afford a $3k night vision scope. What is m...

Re: I've decided. I'm gonna get a Takedown BLR

I have a BLR in 358 win that is a takedown, I really like it, I haven't shot anything with it but 1 hog - he sure was dead. I got the pistolgrip - I just like them - the take down part uses a short lever under the chamber end of the barrel. I shot mine at 100 yds, then took it down and put it back t...

Re: OK, Pretend it's 1939, and you have to choose a rifle

Gooblerforge - I think Bogus Bill is on to something, I believe that is a whistlepig (marmot). If sheep herding was the intent, I think the budget might get strained rather easily, so for a rifle it would be a Savage model 19 in 22 hornet as long as Bears weren't a problem, If bears were a problem, ...

Re: Help needed with BLR variants

I have a blr I just bought that is the 358 win, pistol grip , takedown. I bought it for hog hunting. I really like it. Don't know about the other models, but this one is a fine gun.

Where are you hunting? That doesn't look like Pearland.

I was hunting about 5 miles east of Kenard Tx. The property ajoins the Davy Crockett N F on the south side.

Back from the hunt

I carried my 64A this opening week and was impressed with the results. I got the thing 2 years ago and have been thru a learning process finding what works for it. I shot it a number of times and it was all over the paper at 100 yds. I decided to put a fibre optic up front and when I removed the sig...

Re: Evans Rifle Sighted...

G K that is an interesting picture, that Apache looks pretty tough, til I got to the bottom of the photo and he was standing in his bare feet on a piece of wood. Was the sand hot or was that how the camera man marked the spot he was to stand on? It gave me a chuckle - but I have an unusual sense of ...

Re: Can you/do you hunt with your leverguns?

My bolt guns have not been out of the safe in about 4 years. I hunt in East Texas, the ranges are generally less than 150 yds. My buddy got me started with his model 71 375 alaskan. I was going to fire form some brass for him. Well I did, that was a model 71 and 5 model 94's ago. I think I am going ...

I did not refinish the reciever, it is pewter plated so all the corrision was on the tang, barrel and mag tube. I killed the rust on the tang and put some silver paint on the little spot that showed, most of the rust is hidden by the buttstock. The barrel is from Numrich, the 26 in Longrange Cowboy....

Thanks J Miller, winchester had the spring and screw. Everyone else I checked with was out. I may get to shoot this little darling in a week or so. I'm thinking I might change the buttstock to a rifle style rather than the shotgun. I think that would make it a real looker.

Thanks Griff, I'll put it back together tonite or tomorrow, and post some pictures of b/4 and after. By the way that forend from numerick you suggested did fit but turned out to be the most work of the whole project. When they list it as semi fit and finish they weren't kidding.

Win 94 question

I have a project going, almost thru, but I hit a snag last nite. I bought a win 94 bicentenial that had been new and left in a closet in the box and got wet and stayed wet for some time. The but stock was trash and there was corrosion all down one side. I bought it for cheap and decided to make it a...

Win model 94 forend question

I bought a bicentinenal model 94 that had been laid on its side and got wet in the box(and stayed wet awhile). The butt stock and forend were trashed with wood missing from the butt stock. I decided I needed a 38-55 so I thought this was the perfect candidate. I bought the barrel from Numeric. It me...

My 1st was in 1986, I was 35, I shot a doe near Llano Tx with a model 700 rem in 243. I had had the rifle since I was 12, my father traded a Smith and Wesson K22 for the rifle. Any way I was a late bloomer but I haven't missed a season since then. :D
