Re: Anybody know Iver Johnson owl head 38's
Pulled bullets and loaded 5 test rounds , filled case with Pyrodex RS to within 3/16 .Just enough for light compression. Had to make a crimp tool as I don't reload. Bored hole in R6 cable crimper. To .380 with .375 at edge. Worked perfect. Eyeballed the loads but as you see shot excellent 15 yards h...

Yeah has that nice plum frame blue .People complained about it originally so much Ruger put a notice out .They would attempt to reblue but no guarantees it would be better. Blaming it on tge 4140 casting.Today people go nuts over the color.

Re: Interesting question for black powder shooters
The burn ring of discoloration you see on all cartridge revolvers .Which is a result of carbon . I've never noticed it on any cap n ball revolvers after cleaning. Never fired black powder cartridges though and was wondering if it gave same effect as smokeless.

Your second model is about the best one I've seen inside. The third model is the ideal shooter. It will have cylinder locking notches like a Smith & Wesson. It was proofed for smokeless. Plus, the owl head will be oriented in a different direction than the 1st and second models. Bob 400px-Iver_...

I picked up a really nice 38 break top Iver Johnson owl head .
Trying to figure out model and if it's blackpowder only.
It may be unfired as bore and cylinder show no signs of being fired.
Charcoal blue is flaking and corrosion from being stored on holster maybe .it's like new.

I tell ya I have two Savage 29 early and this 29B 1951 both have perfect bores and are tack drivers . These are cheap rifles ,pinned barrels but bores are brilliant shiney with fairly wide lands.
The sights are key , the bead and shallow rear notch makes a precision consistent aim.

More than likely just chemical dip finish.Thats how all the Italian color cased finishes are. Real cyanide color case is pretty dangerous stuff .
For the life of me out of all the 1892 copies not one copy is dead ringer for the original. Not even close.

The chamber is fairly clean best photo I could get with dental mirror as you can see heavily pitted throat with no signs of any rifling until nearly half way through barrel . My guess leaking gas and bullet tumble is killing it from start. .315/.316 is what cases measure after firing. The Winchester...

Re: Wonder how long it would take
If I had that project, my first thought would be “How big has the chamber and throat eroded to?” You have a small number of cases fired in that rifle. What is the biggest bullet you can slip fit into the cases? There is a shortage of pistol caliber bullet molds between .314” and .355” for the .380 ...
