I'm 99.9% sure that it's not the original configuration, but in the .1 % chance that it's ledgit, look to see if the barrel band is machined for an octagon. if not, it's bogus.

Re: How is the front site mounted on 1892 SRC?
Generally High Temp silver solder and Silver braze are the same thing. Really the two determining factors are temps that the solder flows > 1000 deg F, and the amount of silver in the solder > 50%. Silver braze/solder will be unaffected by hot bluing. Soft solder with a high zinc content are affecte...

Re: How is the front site mounted on 1892 SRC?
First, are we discussing an original Winchester model 1892 or a copy? On the originals made between 1892 and 1937 or so, they were installed in one of two ways: The early rifles up until about 1916 they were dovetailed in place with a very shallow dovetail (.050), silver brazed and final machined/po...

They are not hard to make, the only issue is that one needs to make a bunch of them just to pay for the tooling. 1/16 in slitting saw, and a quality 5/8 or 3/4 ball end mill, you're at $75-$100 not counting labor.

My experiences with the .243 are pretty limited; started about 6 years ago when I bought a youth deer rifle for my son. That first year he took a button buck at about 100 yards, one round and it dropped. Every year, since then he has taken a deer, all the same story one round and down. At the four y...

Joe I talked with GOA yesterday, they didn't know anything about it. This info was released in a nondescript memo on 22 July 16, no fan fare, no news coverage, just some B.S. memo "clarifying" existing rules, BUT with far reaching impacts. I didn't know about it until a customer brought it...

All Appreciate the comments, but I recommend to all that you contact your representatives (Senators/Congress), it takes 5 minutes and you can do it online. Savage used several types of bluing on each rifle: More than likely the frame was blued via "Machine Bluing" aka Carbonia blue, barrel would have been rust blued, and the small parts Nitre blued.
I don't know of any American gun company that rust blued the frames

I’ve taken old Winchester frames and barrels, cut them up and had the steel analyzed. The steel used is somewhat equivalent to today’s SAE 1018. I won’t go into great detail on tensile strength/yield strength of steels, let’s just say that 1018 isn’t used much (if at all) in firearms anymore. Your b...

My thoughts: The 33 WCF was originally designed as a smokeless cartridge. The 1886 can handle the 40-82 with smokeless powders as long as you keep the pressures down to BP loading. It’s a 100 year old gun, with 100 year old steel, something to keep in mind. The “A’ at the end of the SN was to note a...

Well, there was close to half a million 95s produced over a 45 year time frame. Compared to the 1876 where less than 64, 000 produced, or the 1886 where there were only 160,000 produced. You have a lathe, use it. If I were doing it, I would use the tailstock as a stop, use a cut-off tool in the lathe. It might take a trial run on one or two cases, but once you have the exact measurement down, lock the carrage and use the cross slide to cut... too easy. Once set up it should take you...

65 parts for a 1911 seems a bit high. I just partially stripped my 1915 vintage military 1911; (so it’s not an A1 or series 80). Since you provided no pictures, nor exact measurements, here are a couple of thoughts: I’m a strong believer in keeping it simple.
