Re: Wild Kingdom experience just now

Great story. I had a hawk take a duck that I shot, right off the pond. The hawk was just hanging around. I thought it unusual for the hawk to stay so close to gunfire. The ducks were flying and I quickly forgot the hawk until it swept in and took the duck. I believe the hawk learned that gunfire mea...

If the rifle has the previously stated, correct serial number prefix, the rear portion of the lever should be very rounded, a barrel approx. 16", and the front sight is dovetailed into the barrel behind the front barrel band.... You probably have a true Marauder. I have only seen one in "t...

Serial number prefix should be W,Y, or a Z. The .30-30 accounted for approx. 66% of production and the .35 rem. for the remaining third. They are faked. 1886.

I previously mentioned I believe the Hornet is very primer sensitive, read brisance, due to the case neck walls being so thin. Neck tension is minimal at best. If I were to revisit the Hornet, I would try the Fed. 200 primer for ball powders and the Fed. 100 for extruded powders. 1886.

The Hornet is a great little cartridge if you don't expect bench rest accuracy out of your varmint rifle. Many owners have given up on them due to their (normally) poor accuracy compared to other varmint cartridges. If you are happy with 1 1/2 to 2" groups at 100 yards then the hornet is a ver...
