Have or had several 1873's, and have 2 1892's. World of difference....the 73's have HISTORY behind them. The 1892's are slick, light, and so cool in a different way. For me though, I ONLY shoot pyrodex in my 73's, whereas I shoot smokeless in my 92s. I know most shoot low pressure smokeless in 73's,...

So several years ago at a gunshow I bought 2 sealed bags (not in boxes) of bullets labeled "85 GN Hornady 32 Cal." assuming it was the xtp bullet. Looks exactly like the XTP. Finally getting around to using them, trying them in a 32-20 1892. I weighed them and they weigh 90GNs. Hmmm...what...

Just picked up a 1911 vintage 1892. Bore looked pretty pitted but the rifling was very strong. Price seemed right. Most passed it up because of the pitting I am sure. Well, I ran a brass brush thru the bore and several patches and guess what? Most of the "pitting" was actually lint! Never ...

There is a huge difference between tapaderas stain and the minwax stains. Tapaderas stain is spirit based (ie: alcohol based). Minwax stains are not. I have experimented with stains for 35+ years now, and had settled on Pilkingtons red stain to match Winchesters color. That is, until I discovered Ta...

Re: 86 win into a 71?
Actually there may be a bit more to it than just a barrel swap. The .348 was based on a necked down .50-100 or .50-110 or something like that. When Winchetser chambered their 1886 for this 50 cal round they had to do quite a few modifications. For example, the lever is different in the 50 cal 1886's...

It is not a pistol grip stock, but I do have great contact at the rear of the receiver. The tangs are tapered too...so just relieving the back of the tangs wont do it, I'd still get a "wedge" effect. If I relieve this, I'd have to do the sides of the tangs too. Just am afraid of doing too ...
