The 405gr and 45grs of 3031 will give you somewhere around 1500fps which should give you good accuracy and no leading.
That is very close to the load I have used to take quite a few elk.

in Illinois, you should read a few issues of Countryside Journal (available on-line, too). Those folks are moving out and off the grid with NO money and often are NOT young and/or healthy. They are today's homesteaders, and they do things 'the old fashioned way', instead of just reading about them ...

I've shot the 500gr RCBS, about 525grs, through my M70 .458 for 25 years. I just use how ever much 3031 I can stand at the time. Excellent accuracy at all velocities.

As said - the long nosed Kieth boolits like the 44250 RCBS make the OACL too long for feeding in the carbines. Yeah, but the 44-245 PB isn't too long and is a fantastically accurate bullet! In fact, I am back in the house reading leverguns while taking a break from a long casting session of 44-245'...

Yep, they are pretty sweet little revolvers, that for sure! I get about the same group size from all 4 of mine with the 4 5/8" barrel, about 1 1/2" with 7 1/2grs Unique and a 255gr PB SWC. A neat little load that is actually pretty powerful in its own right. Took a nice 3x3 buck last year ...

I've used one single .357 rifle load since 1978. A 158gr Remington JSP and 17.1grs of W296. Never saw any difference between how deer reacted to it and a 180gr in a 300 win. Down and dead. This has been the wifes favorite for near 33 years now
