Steve,
I've never been to that area of Africa, but if you enjoy wildlife viewing, different cultures, and interesting items on the menu the trip should serve you well. We'll look forward to a photo recap of the trip on your return.

The state of Missouri has had an atlatl hunting season for deer for the past 2 yrs. Apparently, no deer were killed during the first season (according to a study I read), but 2 (1 buck & 1 doe) were killed during the most recent season. I have no link to the report, but I suspect that checking w...

I hate them. They wreck my trees and eat my siding. If I see them I shoot them. Just did. They don't spend much time on the ground. Do people still use porcupine quills for fishing floats? Fishing floats are mostly made from the quills of African Porcupines, which are not closely related to North American Porcupines. Think the .218 bee was first chambered for rifles--I'm not aware that it has been a standard chambering for any revolvers/semiautos. But then there are lots of things of which I'm unaware ! I picked up a nice Winchester Model 65 in bee a few years ago. Only something like 5700 were so chambered IIRC.

First picture is indeed a hedgehog, a type of insectivore rather than a rodent. Bruce Scott's photo shows a porcupine and the later "fishing bobbers" are made from African Porcupines, which are not really closely related to our North American porcupines.
