the guy who took the African Big 6 was Vince Lupo, and I'm pretty sure he used a regular Marlin 1895 in 45-70. As a good advertisement for the crossbolt safety, he clicked on a charging lion, disabled the safety, and managed to get the shot off. http://www.brockmansrifles.com/hunt_results.asp Can yo...

I've been using 7.5 grains of Blue Dot in my .357, which is under the load in my loadbook. But it's the most accurate. I'm using magnum primers which I expect would light the powder all at once. I read about the issue on this website: http://www.gmdr.com/lever/lowveldata.htm which seemed to have a l...

The 30-30 Winchester...
Here is an excerpt from a copied page from some load book I ran across, I don't know which one. Since I consider the 30-30 to be a whiz-bang caliber (compared to .357) I thought it was pretty funny: "The 30-30 WCF of 1895 was the first American sporting rifle cartridge designed for smokeless po...

yes, I'm wondering if the reports of banning rimfire ammo are exaggerated. Also the idea of possession while NOT hunting as opposed to possession while hunting. Did it come from a news story? If so, reporters often gloss over the details, especially if they are biased in that direction. I did reques...

FYI, Cincinnati Chili (Cinsunahtuh for anyone born south of the Ohio River) does not contain any tomato at all. It's equal parts ground beef and chopped onion, coo...

Wow, they doubled the penalty, and added jail time. Whew! I got a notice they expanded the range eastward, but at the time you were going to be able to hunt ground squirrels with a .22. Looks pretty bad. I'm not sure of the difference between the statutory and regulatory ban. Well, I was figuring to...

Well, I remember it like it was yesterday because it practially was. I'm still eating him. I was 48 and it was my first year of hunting. I'd yet to shoot any animal - I missed on a couple of small game shots earlier in the year and deer season just rolled around. I'd been out six times already in th...

I believe I will be using the 30-30 deer hunting this year and in future years. For me it is the whiz bang miracle round. I have a 35 Rem also but I think I will change it over to silhouette duty and hunt with the 30-30. Then I can just buy copper ammo for it and won't have to mess with developing a...

the poll asks which cartridge DO you use, not which is your favorite. I shoot more .22 because it's cheap and easy but if I could only pick one, that wouldn't be it. I'm starting in reloading and once I find a favorite load, that will influence my choice. It will probably be a 30-30 or 35 Rem load. ...

30-30 bullets for silhouette
I'm considering my 30-30 for use as a silhouette rifle. It already has the tang sight and the 24" barrel which I like for the longer sight radius. Problem is my local reloading store has very limited bullet choices in 30-30. Besides the premium hunting bullets, all they have is a 150 grain copp...

I picked the 39A for the reputation and longer sight radius. Also it's microgroove whereas the 9422 is button rifled (I heard - don't have one). Mine is new and does jam a lot from a fussy extractor, I just replaced it and hope that's solved. It is easy to take down and clean from the rear. I use it...

I believe the vet should not have tampered with someone else's flag. He has the right to fly his own flag at his house or from his car. Do you like IMR 3031?
I'm considering getting a can of IMR 3031 for 30-30 and 35 Remington, because it is the most common powder used in the loadbook I have. There's an IMR 3031 load for almost every bullet.
Hopefully that's because it's a good powder. How do you guys like it?

Early on I wrapped electrical tape around my rods. I have separate ones for .357 and .308. So nothing has touched my muzzles. this is secondhand, but a friend of mine got rid of his lyman for an FP because it became crooked. Apparently there is no support to where the Lyman hangs over the receiver, and it can get bent. The Williams, on the other hand, has something supporting it on top so it is stronger. I use tang sights ...
