I shoot a pair of Colt 44 specials for CAS & SASS. great shooters.

I developed a great target & general purpose load that is a tack driver. 3/4" 15 yards, two handed hold on the bench over sand bags. 4 shots clover leafed.

I love the 44's.

Winchester never chambered the 95 in 45-70. .405 Winchester which was TR's favorite gun. He took several to Africa and killed lots of big dangerous game with the piece.

I prefer W296 or H110 over 2400. 2400 has been around for a long time. And there have been proven inprovements in Powders since Elmer Keith. I don't care how heavy a crimp I use with 2400 it still leaves un-burned powder and lots of soot in the barrel and gun. It is hard to beat H110 in the 44 mag. ...

For CAS & SASS we use a 105 gr. TC bullet. It looks like a 125 and it seats the same. We use the same loading as the 125 & 140's.

It is a very accurate round.

Meister makes them, and it is called the 105 Rattler. :wink:

I have a load for the .375W but I would not want to shoot it in a Winchester BB or a Marlin. The load is developed for a Ruger # 3 .375W and would be very much a high pressure load. It uses a Speer 235 gr. semi-spitzer 375H&H bullet. I shot a 4 point bull Elk with the piece, a one shot kill.

For a piece of that age I would do a chamber cast before Starting a reloading program. You will know what your true trim to length will be. Do this before you order your brass.

This is one piece you do not want to add stress to the action. :wink:

Do you Crimp the bullet in the neck ?

If not you may try a Lee Factory Crimp die. This would let your powder gather some steam prior to the bullet exit.

I crimp all my jacketed & lead rifle reloads.

The factory rounds are crimped.

I had one when they first came out in the middle 1980's. I shot cast bullets in mine. A 170 gr. gas checked with 20-22 grains of SR4759 and Federal match primers is a very accurate load.

Mine shot 180 gr. jacketed the best.

I de-cap with a universal de-capper and neck size only. Use a Lyman "M" die for expansion & case mouth belling. As I neck size I rotate the case 180 degrees and neck size again. I do this with all long neck bottle neck cases.

My 22 hornet is a TC Contender and I have a rifle stock and a 24" barrel with a Burris 2-6 compact scope. This piece is a one hole shooter at 100 yards. :wink:

I also have several other barrels for the action, rifle & pistol length.

If cost is the object the Handi-rifle is the way to go.

Best to use Winchester Brass with a .311 lead bullet. Winchester brass has the thinnest neck of all brass. If you have a tight chamber this will help. :wink:

I use Kroil mixed with Hoppe's in a 50%-50% mix. enhances the hoppe's.

Kroil is not a rust inhibiter, it is an excellent cleaner. After I clean with the Kroil mixture. I then use remoil for protection if I long term store in the safe.
