In Texas that is what is called a mouse. By the way, your grandfather sure was a short fella.

Re: Suggest A Gun for Hunting Pigs + Deer in CA Non-Lead Ammo?

Don't use 357 for pigs. I tried that once after wounding one on the run with my rifle and running out of ammo. I had my 357 Blackhawk with me. I ran after that sucker and shot it 5 times in the head and didn't kill it. Finally I calmed down enough to put one in it's ear which ended the matter. I hav...

Re: Bullet casting and slugging the bbl

Thanks again. I am leaning toward the Lyman set because Cabelas has it and I can use some of the cabelas credit cards points I have been hording. I have been reading the sites mentioned.

Re: Bullet casting and slugging the bbl

Thanks guys. I mis-spoke in the original post when I said molds I intended to say dies. The Lyman kit doesn't include either molds or sizing dies it does include the Lyman casting manual. My intention was to order the Lyman kit and the mold and sizing die for one caliber to start in one order, thus ...

Bullet casting and slugging the bbl

I am thinking about getting into casting since it looks like components may become difficult to come by in the future. I am specifically thinking about 45/70, 44 mag, 45 Colt, and 357. From the reading I have been doing it sounds like a good idea to slug the barrels before ordering molds. In order t...

Re: What is your favorite woods bumming gun?

I have a ten year old 1885 45/70 Marlin that I did all the normal stuff to, AO sight, ejector, trigger, cross bolt plug. I also put a Treebone Carving stock on it. It is my "truck gun" that I take everywhere I take a rifle unless specifically hunting big game with a scoped rifle. As far as...

Re: Humting with Artillery

In regards to punt guns read Michner's Chesapeak. My son just got back from Thailand and he told me about his visit to Cambodia where for a fee tourists shoot cows with RPGs. Instant hamburger. Not something I would be interested in but I thought I would mention in the interest of cultural diversity...

Re: Uberti 1873 45 Colt Question

Good Question in regards to the New Vaquero. I have one that was gone through by Clements and I was very concerned about max loads. I searched the net extensively and the best load I found is a Mt Baldy 270 SAA (285gr) being pushed by 9gr of Unique. I shoot this often with no problems. It is the hot...

Re: POLITICS - JOIN THE NRA

Old Ironsites, Rather than engage in personal attacks why don't you tell us what efforts you made during the election season to preserve our 2nd Amendment rights? Me? I put my money where my mouth is and sent $1,000 to the NRA this election season. Yes some funds get used for management as in any or...

Re: POLITICS - JOIN THE NRA

I upgraded my membership to life a few months ago. I couldn't just sit back and do nothing with the election coming up but, at the sametime, I couldn't bring myself to support the party that had betrayed us so badly over the past several years. I agree that we need to support the NRA more than ever....

I liked the lady with the bible and a gun. That is the kind of spirit that made this country great and we should never forget it.

I was very disappointed in the Jackson comments. I just finished his book the other day and he seemed like a good guy. I guess you never know.

I'm sorry I started ranting about this stuff, it gets my blood pressure up. Apparently it does the same for the rest of you too. We are really in a tough spot, there's no two ways about that. If it must be a Democrat I agree I would rather have Obama than the she-male. Either one is going to appoint...

As much as I'm disgusted with and as much as the GOP has betrayed us, we cannot risk having a democrat congress and Whitehouse. Every bit of Pelosi San Francisco morals based legislation would get rubber stamped in a democrat Whitehouse. We simply can't do that to our kids or to the guys who died ma...

I'm sorry but I'm really disgusted with the GOP. The final straw for me was when they shut down their switchboard during the illegal alien debate. I wish Newt would use his group to gather critical mass and when it has critical mass, and not before, turn it into a political party to replace the GOP....

I can't help but enjoy watching the Clintons squirm. The vermin will probably pull some under handed stunt to secure the nomination, at least I hope so. Clintons will be much easier to defeat than Osama, I mean Obama. McCain certainly wasn't my first choice but I think we are getting what we deserve...
