Bill ...I'd figure your grandparents were photographed about 1895. She has a lot of the "Gibson Girl" look in that photo with the hat and hairdo.

The Gent looks pretty much dressed up in late Victorian era duds.

Blaine... in all fairness... I handled a STI the other day...Novacs... a glass rod trigger... and the slide felt like it was on ball bearings.

Not to bad for the price tag... I dont think I could rebuild a stocker for that price.

a couple of GI issued 1911 passed my way over the years... most were ok. The problem child wouldnt make 5 hits on a sheet of plywood from 30 feet. In fairness to the pistol.... it was flat worn out. A bushing, barrel and having a 'smith peen the slide and do some refitting we were back in business. ...

I rotate several 22 Smith & Wesson revolvers and a couple of 22 rifles... Marlin 39 and a Ruger 77/22... I usually run at least 50 rounds a week through one of my 22's. A pair of 357's are the riding and walking around guns... a Uberti Cimeron SAA and a Marlin Carbine. Carry/HD... usually a SW 6...

I'd second the starter board or defroster problem... the compressor motor "starts" but won't run for the cycle.

A bad start capacitor would leave you dead in the water (in my experience)...

OK SDA Applications -Done. FINAL EDITION ITS HERE!

Well... went to a SDA class, showed up at the SO for finger prints and paperwork. Shelled out the cash (ah... cash for the fingerprints, debit card for the OSBI) Now they tell me it's just a matter of waiting (and waiting). Word on the street says 80+ days... or a month- go figure. The clerk was ok....

A small Case Sodbuster all the time.

Gerber paraframe folder with a clip when I "go to town" (back up to CCW iron) or am horseback (cuts lead ropes etc in a crisis)

Streetstar... if you can find a set of chains for that tractor they do the trick. I plowed a lot of snow on a 9N over the years.... chains are a "must have" and ribbed feild tires get stuck with regularity without chains. I had to hit a car wash on the way into work this morning... ice ins...

Edited to add: I did not buy a 7-30 Waters a few years ago... but I drooled over it often in the couple of years it resided in a local shop. For a later era rifle... that was about a slick and pretty as you could get. The knurled hammers are so much nicer than the square ones with the serrations on ...

all the standard arguments and rationalzations aside... they are about equal.

Most misfeeds in any make of lever gun are from less than enthusiastic cycling of the lever.

I like my Winchesters... but a Marlin wont fill up with snow if you crank it open under a snow laden fir tree.

as bad as table salt is in the modern diet... we won't live long without it.

All mammals need a little salt in the diet.

Salt used to be traded as cash... In a subsistence-barter economy salt would be worth it's weight in "gold" as the saying goes.

I'd guess that pole top is around 8-10 inches in diameter. (lineman in real life). That Hawk looks like his girth is pretty stout. Seen Red tails carry some good sized rabbits... try to haul off young turkeys and a smallish house cat would not be a challenge. I found a good sized Canada goose a coup...

I find ANZI rated safety glasses with "cheaters"( reading lenses) built- in at places like Tractor Supply and other industrial stores.

Paid less than $10 for the last pair. Safety glasses are cheap insurance.

Ackley doesnt sound any more opinionated than the late Col Cooper did over the years.

That looks like a very nice SAA. Even with the letters and documents... I'd not go much over $2800 for a Colt like that. The patent line still looks pretty good to me... if it was reblued they didnt bugger it up to bad. I'd have to be getting the boxe, papers and a lock of JW Hardin's hair for $7500...

Well... the storm was a week ago. OK City streets still look like a skating ring and City Hall is wondering why pot holes are starting to appear. The just let it go... and hoped the ice would go away. IF they thought they were "too broke" to clear the streets wait until they pay the bills ...

I lean to Doc Hudson's evaluation. High point builds the kind of pistol you run 25 rounds through to see if it works... then leave it in the sock drawer for a rainy day.

Taking the $159 and making a down payment on a higher grade gun would be my A choice.
