- Topic: When and how often do you clean your guns?

I clean about every other outing, or every 50-100 rounds. This may be a no-no, but I don't worry about a time limit. If the gun is clean, before shooting a silhouette match I fire one off at a swinger. I think it shoots more consistently if slightly dirty. Not that it shoots better, but it does shoo...

The muzzle guides I've found don't seem to fit quite right and the rod moves around on me anyway. I don't want to clean from the breech because I don't want to bugger the screws. I clean mine from the muzzle and my rods are coated with electrical tape. An exception is the Model 39 which comes apart ...

I have SO FAR avoided this by charging all the cases with powder, checking them with a little flashlight, THEN seating the bullets. I am easily distracted and get out of sync every so often so I try to use a technique that will negate this as much as possible. Works for me. I started doing that, to...

Have you tried testing the same components with slight variations in the powder charge? I got noticeable differences when I loaded all the same components with half-grain changes in powder. The old timers tell me it's a matter of tuning all your components to a specific gun. Something about vibratio...

How full should the case be?
With a rifle powder (slow burning) it's been said not to load them light, to ensure even burning and no detonation. So, how full is full? More than half, 80%, is there a general rule? I'm going to be working on loads with copper bullets, and there doesn't seem be load data for them. And they are lon...

They have the directional devices in Los Angeles too, plus they ban ammo sales during the week before New Year's and the week before the 4th of July. The target ranges are open but they can't sell ammo. That's just within the city, though, if you go over to Burbank you can buy ammo. Apparently that'...

Stain soaks into the wood, and the only way to remove it is to sand off the top layer of wood. This is probably what the original finish is - stain only. I have had good luck with the paste-style paint remover on guitars and such, it bleaches the wood a little but doesn't remove any wood, and the th...

Does anyone have any squib loads worked up with .357 brass? Something that won't fly very far if it ricochets? The neighbors aren't really very close, but I'd rather err on the side of caution. Personally I like the 336 better than the 94, I think it's a better design, and tougher, but they all shoot and you have to consider what caliber you want. I started with the .357 Marlin. It's an ideal range gun and great plinker. The rifle rounds often knock swingers off, have more recoil, noise, a...

Did the deed - Pre-Remington 336A
Well I stopped by the Big 5 and luckily caught their after-Christmas sale, so went ahead and bought the 336 in 30-30 I was thinking about. Well, I checked with Fish and Game, they said shed antlers are legal to collect as long as I don't sell them. If you check the code, you can sell them if they are made into something else. You can't sell them as heads or mounted antlers. But you can make a lamp or scrimshaw out of them. This weekend...

I've been starting to think about getting a .357 revolver to carry while hunting, around the house, and to take to the bathroom. etc. Seriously, the main purpose would be to have it as protection while hunting. Well, I'm thinking through a dilemna. With the upcoming lead ban in CA, I'm going to have to get used to a copper bullet. My favorite hunting rifle is a 336 in 35 Remington.
