Re: 357 vs 223
I carry an open sight 357 rifle and handgun on the ranch. I shoot Lee125RF/6 grs Unique in both. Crossing paths with skunks, coons, etc is common. The report is not offensive. The Marlin holds 13, GP100 holds 6 + a belt full of extras. Cheap to shoot. Scoped 223 bolt gun gets used from the blind or ...

Re: Favorite combinations. (Rifle and handgun)
Chances are I'm not carrying 2 of the same. My side arm will be 44 Special, 45 Colt, 357 or 22. The long gun is usually a Marlin 45 Colt or 357 or 30-30 Winchester trapper.
No need to carry extra as the Marlins hold 13 rounds. Plus, all but the 22 and 30-30 are fed homemade boolits.

Re: My love of Marlin Cowboy model lever guns
Hopefully that Ruger will hear our wish list and begin Cowboy production again. I have found 26" barrels are too long for my eyesight. Having owned 2 CB 45-70 models, I couldn't see that far, 24" seems my limit. 20" leverguns abound while trappers and long rifles seem to stay hidden d...

Re: My love of Marlin Cowboy model lever guns
I am a Cowboy fan as well. Don't t have as many as you but all mine (5) are 24"ers. Of the 5, two are 70s model 336SRCs. I sent them back to Marlin to be made into the CB model so I have two "presafety" Cowboys. Only the 38-55 still has the saddle ring. At my age I'll likely not buy a...

My Marlin CB shoots the LEE boolit extremely well powered by Unique. I've killed WTD, Axis and 1 turkey with this combination. My favorite levergun. Recoil and report are minimal. My barrel likes them at .453 so 2% sn is added to get diameters.

I've been eyeing those cases for some time. When I traveled, I used the large Pelican cases to ship my PPE and winter clothes. No bears or enemy in my woods and no .22s. When checking fence or snare, cutting cedar, I carry a minimum 357 long gun. A chance meeting with hogs, cats (large or small), exotic deer or coyote needs more fpe. 22s are used to dispatch critters caught in traps.
