Re: OT: Fitting a hammer handle - all fixed w/ pic
At your lumber yard or hardware store you can find a product called "Chair Lock". It comes in a little plastic squeeze bottle. It is a kind of resin that soaks into the wood fibers and dries, so they can't shrink. I've had one bottle for more than thirty years and used it on every tool han...

Re: OT - Gun Designs that never made it
I remember reading several reviews of the Dardick, a magazine-fed revolving mechanism. There was a .38 of about .38 special equivalence. A .22 was promised but I'm not sure it was ever made. The nylon "trounds" could be reloaded without tools. It seemed like a workable design and was offer...

Re: OT: How do I tighten a snap?
If the snap itself is loose on the leather, look in the center and you will see the rivet-like rim that can be tightened with a flat punch. To prevent marring the rounded, out-side face of the snap, make a seat for it by striking the end-grain of a piece of hard wood with a ball-peen hammer .

Re: Loose Dogs
Regardless of the Mississippi, criminal assault remains the same. Let's put this in perspective. If I turn into your driveway by mistake you do-not automatically have the right to kill me or to shoot up my vehicle. If I am hunting on your neighbor's property and my beagle chases a rabbit across the ...

Everyone has a right to defend his livestock. On the other hand, harmless, inadvertent trespass is neither a capital crime nor an excuse for destroying another man's property. In that case the shooter is the one liable for property damage.

Gary Berghoff was the only one in both.

Diston is the only brand they ever used.
You can know the quality by the bolts in the handle. Top of the line will have five bolts, four bolts is next best, three bolts is utility grade.

Dinner is the main meal of the day, no matter when you have it.
When I'm working I usually have lunch at noon and dinner at suppertime. Sometimes on Sundays I have dinner at noon and leftovers for supper.

My headspace experience involves shotguns. The difference between minimum headspace and maximum headspace in identical guns is the difference between a shove and a roundhouse punch in felt recoil.

For some good laughs it's hard to beat "Grumpy Old Men" ( Ann Margret and ice fishing!).
"Rancho Delux" is a cool laid-back modern western.
"Light Horsemen" is a great WW1 movie.

Re: What's The Least You'd Walk Around The Woods With?
I was squirrel hunting, walking a lane between the timber and a tilled field. As I was fording a small creek I looked up the bank and saw a hog looking at me from the weeds. I looked to my left and there was another by the waters edge. I looked behind me to my right and there was a third one on the ...

Re: Old eyes, iron sights, and some thoughts
I had lens implants in both eyes because of cataracts when I was in my 40's. I have been wearing no-line trifocals ever since, and wouldn't be without them. I had trouble shooting long guns at first, until I learned to get the smallest and roundest lenses I could find. That way a slight tilt of the ...

I agree with the previous post. The hood goes in your pocket when you're shooting and back on to protect the sight when transporting.

Re: If Only!...Guns You Really Wish They Made
My wish is very simple and doable. I want Remington to build a 16 gauge on the 20 gauge 870 receiver. When Remington was building an annual "Classic" caliber model 700, I would put in my annual request for the 7.65x53 Mauser. "The cartridge that should have been." If we want to g...

If you'll let a new guy join in, I started reloading with a Lee Loader and purchased a Challenger 2000 press when they first came out, I don't know when. It's the only press I own. I've loaded every thing I shoot on it and reformed 30/06 to 7.65x53 which is a lot of reforming. I've never had a break...

If it's horses and shooting you want to see, get an Australian movie called "The Lighthorsemen". It contains the most magnificent cavalry charge ever filmed, and it actually happened. A three mile charge through artillery and machine-gun fire.

Re: How about the "most under-appreciated" cartridge!
7.65x53 Mauser. It should have been our national cartridge in 1892. If so, the 30/40, 30/06, 308, and 300 Savage would never have existed. Even the 30/30 would be a 31/30. It was in fact widely announced that the 1891 Mauser and 7.65 cartridge had been selected. If this had been true, the 30/40 woul...
