My buddy was a plank holder on the Downes DE 10-70, it was a new canoe when I visited. Years later when Bubbles & I were in San Diego for a convention we took a commercial tour of the harbor. Got to talking to a crew member on the excursion boat & found he'd been assigned to the 10-69 (I for...

Us air guys had two to a dorm room, both bunks on the floor at the same time, a real closet, chairs, a fridge, and TV. :)

Mucho better'n anything I saw on that boat, enlisted-wise.
It was neat to visit, but I for durn sure would not have wanted to live there. :D

Yeah, with so many options available, we're hoping for a two-level with space for the reloading set-up & gun vault.
Gotta keep local building codes in mind, but considering our Northern Utah winters, the double-wall idea is pretty much a must. :)

It was a destroyer tender in '72, the Downes.
Diverted on the way home to SLC from Basic & Tech School in Tejas to visit a buddy who was stationed on her in California at the time.

Compared to the chow hall at Lackland, what I ate on that boat was good stuff. :)

To keep thread-related: The steel Henrys ARE markedly lighter than the brass Henrys.

To diverge slightly: Stayed in Cody for a state championship one year, but couldn't swing the Irma.
Did visit it, ate there, we'd like to go back & stay in it someday. :)

The steel Henry .45-70 is about the same weight as the Marlins, and Henry based their .45-70s on the Marlin action, but not an exact copy.
The extractor's different, for one thing.

Re: Henry announced thier BLR-esque rifle

This is a first step, and the gun IS intended to challenge the bolt-action market in accuracy, which it easily does. Henry didn't bring it out strictly for already-levergunners, they want to convert boltgunners here & there, too. :) Sights, as mentioned, are a strong possibility with an altered ...

It's not a gun for lever-action traditionalists, it's not a bolt-action, and it's not a tactical gun. It IS a well-made and accurate levergun in actual & useful rifle calibers that can easily handle 300-400 yard terrain IF it appeals to you. If it doesn't, it doesn't. My comments have not been i...
