Re: Cast bullet dumb question
A lot of older 44-40's seemed to be .427 but newer ones work with .429 and that's what I sized these.

Cast bullet dumb question
I picked up a Rossi 720 5 shot, three inch .44 special the other day, figured a stainless gun might be nice for canoeing, fishing, yard work and occasional trail gun. And I don't have to search for .45acp brass in the snow. Anyway what would be your choice of cast bullet if limited to a 214gr. semi-...

Most of the HP bullets were designed with handgun barrel velocity, things get pretty fast fired out of a carbine length barrel.

One of my buddies went back to SP ammo after having the hollow points blow up on big deer, I think better penetration with the soft points would leave a better blood trail.

Like Griff say's, a set of grips might make a world of difference. I've always had a hard time getting great groups with the factory S&W stocks like that, always gave me a excuse to get some custom. Pachmayr presentation grips give a good, consistent hold without costing a arm and leg, and look ...

The only thing wrong with reading these old African safari books is it always makes me want a nice double rifle or a English style custom Mauser at the very least. Both are definitely out of my price range, I used a old sporterized Enfield and made me up a Lee Speed Sporter, Danged books.
