Re: New lever gun came my way.

I had the blued equivalent (same sights) in a Marlin.

Excellent gun. I traded it for a Mauser as it was more useful to me, but the .44, despite kicking harder than it should in that gun, was a good shooter.

Federal Flite Control, and Hornady TAP (uses the same technology). Both give tight (one hole at 10', about a 4" pattern at 20 yards, all 9 pellets still on target at 30 yards) patterns. You can use standard buck, but if you absolutely need to ensure the guy you're aiming at is who you hit, that...

Did a late season dove hunt a week or so back. Three pumps and an O/U. Nobody hit anything but not for lack of trying. Birds all too high or low/fast from unexpected directions (we were walking 100 acres, not sitting in ambush). Sent a buddy an early morning pic from my phone. He was stuck at work. ...

The Keltec P32/P3AT and Ruger LCP made derringers irrelevant. They're smaller and lighter than most derringers I've seen and shot, and 7 or 8 rounds of .380 with a rapid reload beats 2 of any caliber with a slow reload.
