My Springer sheds like crazy, but not all Spaniels do. I love the breed and probably get an English Cocker someday. My sister's Amercian Cocker doesn't shed at all. You can hunt cockers just like springers. The spaniels are active and don't do well cooped up. Most of the terriers I've seen are frene...

Thanks for the links Talon, I'll check out the AZ guy. Guys, I haven't committed to doing this. Yet. I'm just tire kicking the idea around right now. I can save a bunch by dovetailing the barrel for the front sight. That's easy enough to do if the barrel is indexed properly. Has anyone seen barrel b...

Levergun modification
I've been thinking again. Yeah I know. Thinking about having an octagonal barrel installed on my Marlin GS. It would be 16.125" with a custom barrel band to replace the endcap/hanger configuration. I'd mark the barrel 45/70. I'd have the front sight dovetailed in the barrel directly. No rear si...

Some people have some success with 300g 44 mags in carbines, but mine won't shoot 320s, they tumble. Plus the Marlins need a little tweaking to get longer carts to feed. Marlin uses a very slow twist in the 44 mag barrel that is designed to stabilize 240g bullets. Folks report good results with bull...

I forgot to add, no rest can be used. Must be standing on my hindlegs. Still think I can do it w/a little practice. Anyone else try something like this? Johnny You absolutely can do it. Junior, Good performance for sure. Is it impossible to get the meplat size you like and a crimp groove that allows full size 357 cases? Just wondering about the bullet design. Was it originally designed for a revolver? About the possibility of a gun jamming in front of a hog, isn't that what revolve...

Re: .444 heavy bullet loads
Howdy Grizz & 336A! Already have the articles printed up in my .444 book from Stanton years ago. I have a 444P Outfitter. 1 to 20" twist & ported. His articles stated that Re7 is the best powder (in his limited testing). I'm hoping one of you guys have tried H335 or 332. Or, how about ...

Grizz - Please consider removing the lambswool, ASAP ! I know, I know - it has lanolin in it - that means it holds moisture from soaking into the lambswool but doesn't keep the moisture away from the gun. You might very well take it out of the case one day, turn it over, and get a really sick feeli...

Grizz, When I made the case for my Marlin 1893 two barrel takedown set, I went to the Goodwill and bought an old briefcase for a buck. I then removed the brass corners, hinges, and handle, and put them on my homemade case. I bought felt remnants from a local pool table builder and cut them to fi th...

NOT-OT gun box
I got to fooling around with some scrap plywood to prototype a fitted gun box. Put minwax on it after this photo: http://www.empresspublications.com/more/06_%20002c.png The innards look like this. There is approximately 150 rounds in the round part. [get it?]. It costs a quarter to reassemble. http:...

The ruger blackhawk is a good one. Also the SP101 or the Smith 66 if you like double action revolvers. I've heard that Taurus makes good revolvers but I don't have any personal experience with them. I like the 44 spcl Pug design. I think the Smith 640 is the best packing firearm there is. I put a cy...
