Have used a S & W 25-2 with 6 inch barrel for varmint control. It works fine -- in an autoloader might be a bit more dififcult for longer shots because of the short sight radius.

go to Davidson's Gallery of Guns. It may be possible that the 1886 deluxe 1/2 round 1/2 octogon with takedown feature are still available. They are 1 of 500 so you need to move fast.

I got one of the deluxe, takedowns in 26"octogon in 45/70 and it is beautiful!

there was a big bore version in 87. The timber carbine was a one year run-- I would have to check my factory letter, however, I believe the timber carbine 444 was fall 98 to summer 99 if I memeory serves.

The timber carbine was manufactured for a total of one year. There are both 'crossbolt' models and tang models. The crossbolt model was 16 1/2 inch barrel-- mine is ported. Rusty, I hope you are joking? The winchester 94 timber carbine in 444 is out of production several years. 444 production is second lowest in numbers behind the 450 marlin which was released right before winchester closed.
