My hunting partner is a lefty and uses a 99 by rotating the gun about a 1/8 turn to the left and uses his thumb works fine. There is a after market tang safety that works along with the lever safety Ive seen pics of it thats a consideration to. danny

SST or interlock? I dont like the SST version as they arent as tough, seen one blowup on a elk shoulder and trying to shoot thru pin bone can be hard on any bullet. the RN 180 interlock has worked fine for me in a 99 sav so does the speer 180 RN hotcore. danny

If you feed animal protein to a ungulate you will end up with diseases, I saw a old empty mineral lick with a sticker on the on the side that listed animal proteins in the ingredients that was 20 years ago. My wife makes a cornish meat pie called a pastie thin sliced potatoes, onion, beef or elk, parsley teaspoon of butter salt & pepper wrapped in your favorite pie dough and baked. they look like a hostess fruit pie. a gravy or favorite sauce to dip in. danny

wife said its 3.89 for a lb of regular burger 70/30 price goes up as the cut of meat increases and the fat decreases so about 5$ a lb for topgrade, about the same for steak 7.50-10$ depending on the cut. it kinda depends on the terrain if I hunt dark timber I use a open sight 30-30 or 348, open terrain I use a 300 savage 99 with glass mostly hunt elk but have shot deer to. all these carry nice on a horse. danny

Jeepnik it was submitted to be the round for the M16 but didnt make it at 50K psi compared to the 223 at 55K psi, it now is necked down and is the 204 ruger. The military likes new rifles with new cartridges not handme downs. danny

222 is a fine cartridge had a 722 in that cal had a 26" bull barrel topped with a steel 6x varmint weaver gave it to my BIL he re-chambered it to 223, it will shoot up to 55 gr just fine with the 1-14 barrel he has been cleaning out coyotes and rock chucks along with the occasional speed goat. ...
