If you mean what gun put the most settlers in the west you would have to consider the Sharps rifle at the top of the list. Until the buffalo were gone the settlers didn't come in. The SETTLERS carried and brough the shotguns. Yes the shotgun is versetile and a favorite of many, but it was the big bo...

Factory specs on revolvers runs from 6 to 9 thousands gap. I prefer 4 thou but can live with 6. First sand the butt stock flat. Then put the pad in place and scribe around it. Then put the pad in your butt pad jig and set the angle for the slant of the stock. Then just sand to the scribed line. Or put masking tape on the stock. Sand right to the tape and don't sand into the stock.

I'd say a 28" barrel on the long winchester, although you could get them up to 36 inches at a dollar per inch. That would put the cowboy at 5-6 to 5-8" or just about average.

If the hole in the nipple is anywhere close to say a #51 drill bit it is too big and you need a new nipple. Also the mainpring should be fairly stiff, most of the new repro's are a tad weak to start with. A GOOD lock will have a crisp and stout hammer pull.
