Re: 44 Magnum Carbine Performance
I’ve shot 240, 270 and 300 grain bullets. All seem to be accurate enough out to 100 yards. My carbine has the factory bead with a Lyman tang peep. The 300 grain cast load from Federal has great penetration, as in through the long way on a deer. Can be a bit hitchy feeding though. All the jacketed bu...

A lot of practice loads like Winchester white box and UMC are no where near max and often less than standard specs and run well in most guns. In my 1911 even starting loads of Unique behind a 230 grain run just fine.

I think there is something to the sight radius advantage of longer handguns. I shot a friends 10 inch barreled Mark II, and it was remarkable how easy were getting hits on pretty small targets beyond what most people call handgun ranges. while he was practiced at it, I was not although I have a 6 7/...

Lots of powders will work for both. I like Power Pistol and Unique. Power Pistol seems very efficient with regards to velocity for pressure. Unique is just so versatile across the board.

Rossi is using the 410 frame they use for those small matched pairs for kids. It's never going to be a 454 or equivalent. It is what is and that's a cheap pistol that can shoot 410 and standard 45 Colt fairly well. I don't know what it is about slugs that are unsafe though. The Rossi 410 is substant...

Ammo costs, lower recoil, shootability. Same reason people buy 357 over a 44, or a 6.5 Creedmoor over a 338buckeyeshooter wrote: ↑Sun Aug 06, 2023 5:39 am Why would you pay $1500 for that when for the same money you could buy a .460 or .500? They both do anything a .350 does and do it better.

I thought the patterns were impressive and that one group of 45s was pretty good too. Would have liked to see some 20-25 yard patterns. Could be a decent utility gun. I do not care if I never fire a 410 slug. Why would I want to if I can use a heavier, cheaper and better constructed 45?

I would think 357 Max would be a better revolver cartridge with the rim headspacing, ability to use magnum and special, and roll crimped bullets. These guns are too big for my taste but a 445 (stretched 44) could be useful for the same reasons.

45 Colt if we are talking six guns like the SAA or Blackhawk. I would pick a 8 shot 357 N frame over a model 25 on the same frame. I would honestly feel well armed with either round but hate to fight with either if that makes sense

BTW I think Ruger has discontinued the 40 cal version of its PC Carbine. It’s not perfect either but the ability to use two different mag systems of which I own is appealing.
