OT - Made meat yesterday

Post by deerwhacker444 »

Well, I got a shot yesterday evening that I just couldn't pass up. This is the first buck I've taken with a bow, so it's kinda special even though it isn't a wall hanger. I'm 95% sure this buck is the same lil' buck that I passed up last week, except now he's busted off one side from fighting. I saw him about 75 yards downwind last night. I doe grunted about 6 times and that's all it took. He walked straight to me looking for company. He's not the greatest I've killed, but season is half over and I had yet to see much. At least he should be fine eating. Hope everyone else is having a good season.

FYI, the Butt-Out tool worked like it was supposed to. Although it just makes you feel dirty and wrong for using it..... :?

Congratulations on your buck! Getting anything with a bow can be tough enough.

Great job - nothing like getting close to a whitetail and using a bow!

Shot was 10 yards or so. He came in downwind, circled around me and started back from whence he came. At that point I knew it was now or never. I drew my bow, mouth grunted once, he stopped and I let the arrow go. The arrow went in high in the lungs and poked out the otherside right behind the shoulder (shown in photo). The arrow wasn't a clean pass thru, but only the fletching was sticking out so I got full penetration. When he took off to run, the arrow was close enough to his shoulder that it snapped like a twig. He ran off about 50 yards, stood still for a few seconds and tipped over, kicked a couple of times and then it was over. My bow is a Mathews Drenalin set at #70 lbs that I bought back in 2007(now discontinued), and I was shooting NAP Nitron 100gr. heads. They left a nice blood trail.

Well done!
