Rossi 454 Casull Rumors

Post by Nate Kiowa Jones »

I think everyone here pretty much knows Rossi is now owned by Taurus. What I have seen mentioned is that the 454 Casull and 480 Ruger guns will no longer be available. That is only partially true. It appears Taurus/Rossi has dropped the 480 Ruger. Here is the Rossi/Taurus 2009 FULL LINE CATALOG This came out first part of last year. As you can see the 454 Casulls in Stainless 16" and 20" and the blue 20" round barrel carbines are still shown.
I think the rumor that Rossi wasn't going to make the 454's came about because none of the distributor were getting them from Rossi and once the guns on the shelf were gone everyone assumed that was the last of them.

Good news today. While I was checking one of my distributors on-line inventory for availability's I see the 20" stainless 454's are back on the shelf. I suspect the 16" SS and the 20" blues will soon be available too.

Hmmmm,... FWIW,... I was told a looooong time ago by a retailer that he wasn't ordering anymore because of them falling apart. Not that "none of the distributor were getting them from Rossi ".

But that was just one retailer.

I heard some of the stocks split so it seemed the wood could be suspect. but not the metal.

I wanted and tried to talk myself into buying the 480. I really thought that the range berween 454 & 44 mag would be an ideal spot.

Early on the 454's were jerking the mag tubes out and splitting the butstock and forends. They now have the mag tubes screwed into the recievers. Rossi has added a nylon pillar where the screw goes in the stock. That helped but I found the best solution for both the butt and the forend is to glass bed them.
If Rossi used a harder wood and fit it better this wouldn't be a problem. They aren't going to do that so the next best thing is glass bedding. The Bedding takes care of the fit and is certainly harder than the Rossi wood.
