Another big boar down...

Post by 86er »

... for me and Ricky. This guy has been terrorizing our property, keeping other animals out of the food plots. Luckily, he consistently came out in daylight between 5PM and 6PM. Today was his last day out. At not quite 100 yards, Ricky put a 140 gr Nosler Accubond from his 7mm-08 in him and he went down. Not to waste the opportunity, I shot two 170 gr Nosler Partitions traveling 2375 fps from my 300 Savage into his shoulder. The boar weighed around 250 pounds. We were very surprised to see the thickness of his hide - over 3/4 of an inch! The .284 Accubond travelled around 14 inches, slightly front to back. It weighs 94 grains or 67% weight retention and is .529. One .308 Partition went 14 or 15 inches through shoulder bone and left a dent in the hide on the opposite side. It weighs 89.9 grains and expanded to .619. The other hit slightly higher and broke shoulder and leg bone before sticking to the hide in the opposite shoulder. It weighs 94 grains and expanded to .589. The Partitions retained an average of 53.5% of their weight. Both of these results are on par with what Nosler said and are consistent with bullets we recovered in the past. Overall, good performance on a tough critter.

Nice going Joe! Hope your giving yourself a chance to heal. Chronic pain is easy to tuff out at first when your young ,then the years pile up and it's no fun  Question, The Ricky you hunt with is that the same Ricky you brought to Maine on the bear hunt? If not how's taxidermy Ricky doing?

Good show.
Now if we can shoot or trap that Jaguarundi and show it off, people will beleive it is not just a bobcat.

Thick, tough hide, but certainly not bullet proof. Maybe next time you can let Ricky try out the 300 grain flat nose soft points from his .45 lc levergun on a big hog and find out what those Speer bullets on live game.
