Butt - Belly - Beak - Bang !

#1 Post by 86er » Sat Dec 29, 2012 9:05 pm

Last night I got a last minute invitation for an OK bird hunt on private property. Brandon and I made the long drive and decided to put this shotgun-swing/lead stuff to the test. We decided on a saying "Butt-Belly-Beak-Bang" to help him lead the bird and follow through. Our Vizsla "Rosie" pointed 9 pheasant and 7 were cock birds. Out of the 7 Brandon hit two and they folded! Rosie also pointed 3 coveys of bobwhites. We did not shoot the covey rise but followed some singles. Brandon shot at 11 and hit 2 quail. Apparently this worked out pretty good for him. He was using his .410 bore with 1/2 ounce of #7 shot (single shot IJ). I did not shoot today, this was for him and the dog.

Great times. I'm love bird season. I lost my pitbull a while back and ended up getting a Visla as well, looks like I made a good choice.

I'll have to remember that saying, it might improve my shooting too.

They say it's a heck of a lot harder to hit stuff with a 410 than with a 12ga due to the smaller load and pattern so that means the boy is doing exceptionally well.

Oh man, 86er, what a wonderful day! He'll remember it the rest of his life. He is very fortunate to have you for a father.
What kind of .410 is that?

Nice Vizsla, nice picture.
I still use that saying sometimes when I get into a slump. I think for most part, it just slows me down some.
