Aw heck Pitchy, I have been snowed on the first day of summer! I used to fish a few high mountain lakes and we got chased off a lake by snow.
I'd say just be happy you are getting 3" in April- if it was October you'd know you were in for A LOT MORE!

Better fire up your ice breaker for the pond!!

You've got snow and we've got high water. Have to drive 20 miles to get to town which is 6 miles away. Guess I didn't need anything anyway.

Pitchy,
I'm just a bit East of you and the only month I haven't seen it snow in is July. Still doesn't make it any easier!

Pitch, sorry for the late snow. We have had an extreme winter here -- extremely wet. Farmers have not had a 4-5 day warm dry break yet and many have been unable to get into their fields, and it is almost May. Much of the Northwest is at 150 percent of normal precipitation. Can you say, "mud"?

Up until '86, we used too always get 2 big snowstorms here in April, I bought a 4x4 pickup in March of 1986 and April was warm and dry that year.

Or it could supernova in the next second. We'd get a few minutes warning but what difference would that make.

And just how did they figure out when the sun will burn out? Seriously, scientists often make WAG's and expect folks to take it as gospel.

By gum! I hope you're not sending that weather our way, Pitchy!

A WAG of 4 billion years could be a rough guesstimate but does it really matter?

Weather this year has been stupid different! We're at over 45 inches of rainfall since Oct. 1st last year! Our normal for Oct.-Oct. is 38" annual rainfall! We keep breaking rainfall daily records, and snowfall at high elevations is almost 140% of normal!

But I remember back in the 1990's we were doing some high altitude work for the Bonneville Power Admin. and all work was supposed to be done between June 1st and Oct. 1st, to avoid getting caught in snow conditions. Can't remember how many times we got snowed on during that time frame, but it happened a lot! One site in Central Oregon we did in late June. It was 70 degrees about noon when it began to cloud up, and the temperature dropped like a rock! I was working in jeans and T shirt, and quickly put my sweatshirt and Carhardts on! Then it began to snow heavily, and before we could cover up things we had a foot of snow! Next morning we chained up to get up to the site in 2' of snow, and by noon it was all melted and I was back down to a T shirt!
