I remember drooling over these 40-some years ago in the annual Guns Illustrated. Eager to see how it shoots. Bonus is the well-made holster is by the famous and late lamented Hamley leather shop in Pendleton, Oregon.

I have one but with a 6" barrel. Good shooter but no holster!

Thanks Lenn. Got it from a game law enforcement officer. Gunny, I'd have preferred a longer barrel, but this will carry nicely. I hear the newest version of the High Standard company offers magazines.

Having eaten at the Hamley Steak House, I visited the leather shop right next door. Outstanding! Their Prime Rib is, as well.

Restaurant is doing fine as well. Boy, they are proud of their beef. $48 for an 8-ounce filet, my favorite cut. Was it good?

I think I had a 20oz piece prime rib....I think it was over forty bucks, but it was very, very good. I love the dark walnut in the place. I kept expecting to see Doc and Kitty come in any second.

My buddy claims there is a place down/up the same street that is sort of a dive that has better food.

The new HS company has other parts, as well.

The 1947 HD-MILITARY I traded to a buddy had a few parts missing when I bought it, and the parts they sent me needed only a very little bit of fitting to my particular gun.

BTW - If you're not familiar with it, the rear sight can be tricky to adjust.

With the slide open and locked to the rear or off the gun, you will notice a screw at the end and underneath the slide that goes straight up into the slide.

Loosen that screw one turn ONLY - do NOT remove it, as it merely retains the next screw to loosen that is on the outside end of the slide.

Loosen that next screw 2 turns, and the sight can be adjusted.

I would suggest moving the sight blade by the blade only as that little tiny pin in the serrations is only supposed to hold the blade in place until you squeeze it tight with the screw again.

The sight can be adjusted for windage & elevation.

You know I haven't really put it on paper, when I got it I cleaned it, function tested a box or 2 but it's like most of my guns, a safe queen. Just never enough time to play with them all.

Heck I still have a 375 H&H I built back in '93 that is unfired!!

Use only 22 standard velocity in the piece. CCISV's are the way to go.

The HS Sport King is probably the best .22 auto ever. In 1958 while stationed at Fort Ord I bought a Sport King with a 4 inch barrel from a hardware store in Salinas. That was the most accurate pistol I have ever owned. Yes I traded it for something I thought I needed at the time OH WELL. Never saw an HD I could afford.
