I gave a bow hunter my 50AK to use on his last day if he didn't get a bear with the bow. He just e-mailed me these photos and information. Range 34 yards. Hit the bear face on under the chin, high in the throat. At first they couldn't find the bullet or an exit hole. Upon skinning the whole bear the bullet was found in the back right ankle. It was a 500 grain Hawk Premium Bullet. It now weighs 424.5 grains. Mushroom diameter is 1 1/16th inch. The bear dropped dead right there.

Guessing, the bear weighed between 225 and 270 pounds live weight. The shot was fired from 15 feet up in a treestand. Upon inspection, the bullet hit under the chin. It broke the neck and shoulder socket, tore out one lung and gashed the heart, went through the liver and stomach, broke the pelvis on one side, broke the femur bone and lodged in the ankle. I'm surprised it didn't exit, but given the 1950 fps muzzle velocity, close range and terminal path, the bullet did exactly what it should have. No jacket core seperation at all. This was my first glimpse of Hawk Bullets on game.
