Doing anything different in their hunting plans this year?
Is anyone doing anything different in their hunting plans this year?
Myself I have decided to park all of my long range rifles (I'm into the 300 & 375 RUM cartrdidges lately) and only hunt with lever or single shot rifles this fall.
The following are the rifles I'm planning on using, 22" barreled T/C Contender carbine in 45-70, 20" barreled s/s Puma M92 454 Casull, Marlin 1895GS 45-70 and s/s Browning BL22 22lr.
I live in Canada so can't hunt with handguns here, if I could I would be taking the Ruger 45 Colts in the pic below as well as I have a 4.25" & 7.5" SRH's in 454 Casull that would be going as my primary guns...

It has been and will be a long time before I hunt with other than leverguns or levergun cartridges, muzzleloaders, handguns or a bow.

For the last 5years I spent Thanksgiving hunting at a friends farm in West Virginia. This year my wife and daughter are coming too. My wife is unsure if she is going to hunt, but is excited to learn how we operate in the meat house. My daughter is excited to see the farm she is not interested in hunting. My wife and daughter have not seen snow or been in the cold for 8 years, so they both look forward to the possibility of snow. I am looking forward to introducing them to a very special place and some great people.

Nothing new equipment wise, but instead of doing any scouting, I'm letting the older boy do it. He lives up north. This year the youger boy and I will ride his coat tails. About time he earned his keep.

I'm hoping to get my first Muzzle loader goose in a week or so, failed last year. I have the paper shotcups made and lubed ready. I watched the geese on their evening flight path this week, I sure hope they are only that high in a week or so!
Will be using the bow more this Febuary too.

Oh no, going into "Laminate Overload"!!
I must say that is a very nice collection. I could show pics like that but it would involve borrowing a gun and PhotoShop.
As to the question: Maybe. I might actually hunt this year.

Well. I will be hunting the early resident Canada goose season with my TC Black Diamond muzzleloading 12 guage shotgun. That will be different.
The other different thing that I will be doing is that Dad and I will be taking a week out to go hunt the muzzleloading deer season in southern New Hampshire. We'll be tenting it which should be interesting .

I'm just grateful that I drew an antlered Mule Deer tag this year for the muzzle loader season, been 2 years!
Plan to use my .54 Hawkins side lock with round ball barrel as I have the past 20 years or so.
I almost put in for the general season so I could use a lever gun but I just enjoy the solitude and lack of seeing another hunter during the Muzzle loader season.

I plan on getting out ealier instead of waiting until the last few days. I will be using a lever action. Might alternate between the 30-30 and 44 mag.
Re: Doing anything different in their hunting plans this year?
As far as I know, I'll be hunting with a couple Marlin Cowboys in .44, one scoped, one not. Also I'll be using my Marlin Cowboy in 38-55 for my 'long range' rifle......
But I also plan to take my .348 out a few times elk hunting, with some Barnes 250's.
If I get my Ruger #1 in 45-70 back from my 'smith after getting a reblue and having the front swivel band reattached, I may take that one out a time or two also.
Outside of that, just a couple Ruger Flattops too!
