My son got his first deer (a doe) at 14.
Did the tail mount for that one.
His first buck was the traditional rack mount.
How have you memorialized your kids first kills for them?

That's amazing that your son can kill a deer with his fist already!

Looks nice. He will always be proud of that, plus, it gives him the incentive to get a bigger one. I have done about the same. I had his first deer and fox mounted, after that, it was just a rack mount. -----------Sixgun

The shooter should always get the first piece of steak off the plate.
The way you did your two mounts is great. But I do not like it when a father does a full shoulder mount on a spike buck.
Tell your child you will mount his first 8-point. We he gets that mount it will mean something to him for his whole life. Tom.

Lots of photo's and at least one 8x10 on the wall. The 8 point he got last year is going to be done with a mount on a nice plaque.
plus I am keeping a tally with them the 12 year old has killed 12 pigs a doe an eight point a turkey hen and a nice gobbler. I had him write a small story in a journal just for wildlife stuff. My 8 year old has only one pig and 2 dove and they are both pics on the wall.

Well, I mounted his 8 point. Much to his mother's chagrin.
It's in my shop right now but will move into my office when he goes to college and I get the room.
My youngest needs to get his still - and I'll mount that too (by God).

Re: How have you memorialized your kids first kills for them?
My first was a spike, one of the antlers was mounted to a rough cut plaque and a small brass piece was engraved with my name the year. All of this was unknown to me and given as a gift the following hunting season. I still have it. Mounted on the wall in my reloading room.
My daughter has joined me on a few hunting trips and does go to the range with me, but so far has not decided she wants to hunt.
casastahle your mounts look great.

Still trying to get the ants to finish de-fleshing his buck skull for a "Texas" mount. Might have to buy the beetles...
