Hunt Report-Back from Montana with meat in the freezer

Well I got my first chance this year to hunt buffalo in eastern Montana. I had a great time and the hunt was fantastic. It took a while to get a shot, as this 18 month old heard bull seemed to always be surrounded by the heard. The Mighty Freedom Arms .454 finally spoke and the hunt was over for this fellow. I really enjoyed my expierience, and will more than likely return in the years to come. My wife says it is a requirement as she now prefers buffalo to beef. :D :D

Congratulations on great hunt and lots of great meat.
I had buffalo burgers at 86er's house yesterday(shot by his wife, Toni) it was as good as burgers get! :) :)

Excellent 95 Fan! Congratulations! :) Had my first Buffalo meat last week while on an Elk hunt....that is some good stuff.

I was able to get within 75 yards of the heard, but by the time I got a shot at him it was about 90 yards.

The guide asked me to shoot the axis joint, which is the juncture of the skull to the spine. Its a target about the size of a softball right behind the ear. I aimed, squeezed the trigger, and down he went, and up he got again. I later found out that I missed the joint by about an inch. I put two more through the shoulder, which really slowed him down. Both were double lung through and through shots, and one took out half of the heart. The buffalo was still standing after both of those shots, so I got another shot off at about 40 yards at the axis joint, except this time I was right on target. He went down for the count. I have to give that critter his due credit, buffalo are one tough animal. I was using a 330 grain linotype cast lead bullet, traveling at around 1650 fps.
