Stetson hats

Post by Old Savage »

Looking for a Tucson style hat took me to this interesting site.

http://www.stetsonhat.com/video.php

No Tucson style hats in the search turned up yet.

Thanks for that link Old Savage. I'm glad I never had a job like that. The same thing day in and day out for 8-hours a day would have driven me nuts. Take the guy "pouncing" (sanding) the brims of the hats. He must have had a stack of 20 to 30 hats in his lap and all he did was pick one up, run it through the pouncing machine and then do it again with the next hat. Not that there is anything demeaning or dirty about that particular job BUT it must be "BORING".

Very interesting though. I've had a few Stetsons in my time and they are good hats.

I have had a couple jobs like that. Repetitive labor for some gives the mind an opportunity to run. If you find your own progression of thoughts interesting you may like it.

Thanks Rman, a friend gave me his Dad's Stetson and I ironed that kind of crown into it on the bed post. Very similar to the Tucson and the Stetson logo transferred to the bed post.

I looked at that Bailey website. That's a BIG hat if it's 3-1/2 feet!

I have a 4 inch brim Rancher in black. Geo. Bush wears that hat in the light beige color, and it is a nice hat to slap on your head. Not one I would go cut firewood in however. At least Stetson has a 7 7/8 for my big noggin.

I have 3 ;) There's just nothing like a stetson...
If you in the Chicagoland area there is a place called Alcala's Western Wear, great place. They have a guy there full-time that will shape it for you the way you like it, they will also reshape and clean it for you for life! Plan ahead it take about 2 hours for it to clean and dry also you can't get blood off ;) ALWAYS store you hat upside down!

Bill, that Tom Mix hat is the bomb. Sorry to hear about your nephew, however. He looks very young in the photo. :(

I have gotten almost all of my hats from the Garland plant outlet store. Back then they were just Resistol. They bought out Stetson later. The one in this photo I have had for 43 years!

Yes. Matt was 43 when he died in 2004. He was born with brain damage and only weighed a little over 2 pounds at brith. I had to handle his affairs for many years and he died on my watch. I belive the final word was a pullmanary embolisim. I belive the medication they had given him made him super lethargic, he always wanted to be a cowboy. He collected spitoons! One day I said Matt, what are you going to do with all these spitoons? He said I am going to rent them out where they make those western movies! He didnt have a mean bone in his body, but I had my hands full with him!
Here is another picture of him when I gave him the hat, probley the last one of he and me together. I belive that is my stetson charlie one horse I am wearing.

Bogus - I was in on that sale too - got a 6x Rancher in Mist Grey for some low price. And, A belt buckle for $5. That guy had that store for many years before he retired at least since the sixties my wife says.

And I got some earrings for my wife.
