I would have to say the Marlin 336 is much smoother in my opinion. The 94 has always seemed to have "slop" in the action to me. That being said, I prefer the Winchester 1892 action over either. Why Winchester ever chambered the 94 in pistol calibers instead of just bringing the 92 back is beyond me.
