What IS up with Winchester and rimfire ammo?

Post by Hobie »

What IS up with Winchester and rimfire ammo? I mean, Midway shows no stock on most of it and NO BACKORDER. Winchester stuff is just darn hard to find. It is as if they were moving the rimfire plant again. Does anybody here know anything?

Hobie

Winchester primers are hard to find too.

Other than that I know nothing.

Maybe all of the rimfire stuff is going to get the dreaded "seasonal" tag from Winchester ... like 348 WCF. At that point we'll be forced to find and slay a unicorn and pour its still warm blood over a fire kindled with empty PowerPoint boxes in order to evoke the magic that will drive it back into production.

I just bought the last 9 boxes of Winchester SuperX 22 mag 40gr JHP at the 2 Wallyworld supercenters in Rochester,MN and both guys at the counter said they (store) had no intention of getting anymore in. BTW I paid $8.97per box. H elaso said 9mm and 45acp werent on the reorder list either!!

I was talking to the owner of a local gun store tonight about ammo and brass availability in general. He said that Sierra bullets in Sedalia, MO is working 3 shifts and can't catch up with demand. Employees of Midway here in Columbia are coming to his store because they can't get the stuff they want there. It's just that the demand for brass, bullets, and ammo are greater than the manufacturers ability to produce it right now.

The local wal mart here hasnt had any 22 shells of any brand in a couple months. They say they order 30 cases, and get in 2. They put them out, and they're gone in a couple hours at most. They did say that the industry guys have said that in a month or so, they should start to catch up.

Well, I've been, ummmm, saving up for quite a while because last January I noticed reduced availability on those items that interest me.

I'd like to strangle the idiots who voted for Obama knowing he was going to pursue an aggressive gun-control strategy, but figured they'd just go out and horde ammo and guns and hope to be "grandfathered" in...

My local Wally World is out of almost everything. They haven't had .22 LR in stock for over a month. Every time it comes in it gets sold out within a day.

I have had no problem getting all the CCI, Federal, Wolf, SK, etc rimfire ammo I need. I have had to buy online or have the local discount house order what I want, but there has been no problems. Centerfire ammo, especially pistol, has been very difficult to get.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

Yep!!!!!!! I'm there too on all accounts Ysabel.

My local Wally has some boxes left as of yesterday, Winchester actually, but all the Fed. and Remington Bricks appeared to be gone. They usually have a good bit of those on hand.

I have not had any issues........

Post by DarryH »

I am the buyer for the hunting/fishing department in the store
I work at.
The only issues I have had getting ammo is .223 and 7.62x39.
SP ammo is 7.62x54 is tough also.

The end of the season has come and gone.
Once the SHOT Show is over, the entire cycle starts over.
We don't stock ammo heavily right now, as sales here in the midewest slow down at the end of hunting season, and the onset of the really cold weather.

For me anyway, rimfire ammo has been no problem.
Maybe we have just been lucky.

We seem to be out of .22 bulk pack ammo of all makes in central OK. The lock up cabinet in Guthries' Wallyworld is out of 9mm 38spc 357 45 40SW and has just a few boxes of premium grade rifle ammo around....The still have CCI stingers and some shorts and CB's ---but all the common stuff is G*O*N*E

I guess I should waddle down to Bass Pro (downtown... about 10 minutes from work) and see what they have in stock
always press the "red" button--- it's worth the effort and the results can be fun

I was in the local Wal-Mart about an hour ago in Hamilton, Ohio. They bad plenty of Fed and Rem bulk packs, and a good supply of CCI .22s. I did not see any Winchester on the shelf. They are very thin on 9mm and .45ACP, and .30-30 is gone. This is not a hot bed for hunting but I have not seen any .30-30 in the local stores since, yep, the election! :o

Winhester is currently deep into developing leadless 22 ammo, they are suppose to be introducing 22 Mag this month with 22 lr to follow.

If that is reality, that is good news.
Problem is I now have to start shooting my stock of lead .22 mag & restock with leadless.
It could be worse :D

Actually... That's really BAD news. That means a precedent has been set and a Major OEM has rolled over to the Ecoweenies & ARFs.

Their action makes it easier/more likely that Cast Bullets will be banned...

Not that they care, we have to buy from THEM.

It looks like Natchez has gotten some 22LR in just recently ... I've been looking every day. They have the 100rnd plastic packs of PowerPoints for $6.29 each. That's about $315 for a case. I may grab some of that ... I haven't seen PowerPoints lately. I hope they're going to follow shortly with the 22WMR in 40gr JHP flavor.

Hobie, Cabela's in Ft Worth and had beaucoup Win .22 in the wooden display boxes yesterday.

Didn't think to do a price check though... The bulk stuff around it was between $21-25 if that helps.

Yesterday I was at the gun shop I go to when we go to the city and he was askimg $29 for bulk Winchester Xpert 22hp. This ammo works well in a few of my guns so I was looking to add to my stash but not at that price. Then I hit both of the Walmarts where for $12.97 a box I added 12 boxs to my hord think I did okay.

I was in my local Walmart this past Friday, they still have no .22 of any kind. I bought the last 6 of the Winchester Xpert bulk packs there a couple of weeks ago, that was part of the only case they have received since early December. Course I already have a "few" put back already. They was also out of all 9mm, 38 and .357mag, and 45ACP.
