Post by barbarossa »

I have a chance to buy either a Uberti 76 in 50/95 with 28 inch barrel or a Chaparral mountie carbine in 45/60 which would you choose and why.

Which do YOU like best?

The .50-95 will be very expensive to feed. The Uberti is probably better made. You don't give any other details.

I really like the look of the mountie carbine and the fact I can use 45/70 cut down for brass for the 45/60.My only concern is the quality issues of the Chaparral.I ve been hearing that their quality control has gotten better anyone else hear this

It's my understanding that the Uberti is a better quality firearm .

But the kicker for me is the caliber :!:

"I" would much prefer a 50-95 over a 45-60

Are you able to handle these guns or are you going by seller description?

The Uberti hands down. Better quality, better cartridge. The 50-95 is an improved 50-70 made for the '76. Cases can readily be made from 50-90 Sharps cases according to Cartridges of the World, and these are not that expensive from Starline. I've been thinking of getting one myself!

You will have to turn down the rims on those .50-90 cases. You can turn the Uberti into a "cat" gun, a shorter barrel, button mag gun.

You can get cases already formed from Buffalo Arms but they are almost $3 each. Prices sure have gone up!

That's why some of the '76 buyers have taken to stuttering. It is a behavior they learned in trying to justify the expense to wives... Cartridge case or loaded round. The new .45-75 ones cost about $5 a piece delivered, in your labor or theirs. I might have $1000 in a gun but I've got $2500 in AMMO!
