I was watching the Louis Lamour movie "The Quick and the Dead" for the umpteenth time today, and I just noticed that some of the rifles used were 1860 Henrys, but they had a side loading gate, PLUS a magazine follower? I tried to find some info on this particular configuration, but w/ no luck.
I know that Henry made a transitional model with the side loading gate and an open mag tube, but there's no mention of the follower being there.
Was this just an error in the movie, or were there such Henrys.
Thanks!

It was probably an 1892 or 1894 Winchester that the gun rental people didn't do a very good job of faking into a Henry. I've got the VHS buried somewhere and ought to look at it again.
Sam Elliot's films don't get the budgets like Tom Selleck's, but together they make a great team...especially in the Louis L'Amour books-into-movies. Danny Glover carried a pair of 1866 Winchester clones with the forearms removed in SILVERADO.
They are doing a lot better now, but still have a way to go on authenticity. Watching HAVE GUN, WILL TRAVEL re-runs on a local channel is interesting...open tops, Merwin & Hulberts, an 1876 carbine with long forearm (like Selleck's in CROSSFIRE TRAIL.) I'm getting the new 3:10 TO YUMA DVD in a week..wonder how good it will be?

The bad guy in that movie carried a jury rigged nickled 92 made up to look like a Henry.
Tom Conti 's character had a Henry replica
Sam Elliott's character had an 1873 replica
The indian guy had an 1866 replica
Kate Capshaw's character wielded a mean tree limb
One of my favorite movies.

Thanks for the info, Joe. I could still swear I saw a Brass-receiver Henry Replica with the same configuration I mentioned. I guess any configuration is possible in the movies.

I was watching "The Man from Laramie" the other night (Jimmy Stewart), which was made in the mid 50's. The old 'widder woman' who saves him in the corral fistfight, looked to be using a REAL brass frame Henry. Considering the time period, it could be that a few were available for props.

Winjester, I dug the CD out to get the actors names. Just for because I'll watch it again and watch for the rifle you're thinking of. If I see it I'll hit the pause and look it over real good. Then report back.

The best thing in that whole movie was Kate Capshaw! But that's not takin anything away from all the other things in that movie. I bought it! AND I watch it regularly, (guess why!) jd45
I watched the movie today and as far as I can tell here is what the actors had:
Half breed indian: 1866 SRC
Con Vallian: 1873 rifle
Duncan McKaskel: 1866 rifle with forearm removed to look like a transition model. No follower on it as it was a standard tube magazine with hangers.
Doc, the villian: 1892 Winchester plated and rigged up to look like a Henry. Had some sort of fabricated part at the front of the receiver with something to look like the Henry's follower.
And the boy that played Tom McKaskel was John Wayne's son Kenny Morrison. Also known as Ethan Wayne.
